Ok now!!! My blonde L-1000 arrived a couple hours ago and i just got it unpacked. Won't bother with more pics since Greg has done that, and much better quality than mine would ever be.

This bass is awesome, dare i say perfect?!? Feel, balance, sound, fit, finish. I would not change a single thing. Interestingly it feels lighter than 8.7 pounds, maybe (just guessing) due to less stuff i.e. another pickup and wiring, battery, etc - than the L-2000. My L-2000 is 8.8 pounds but feels noticeably heavier than the L-1000, certainly more than 1/10th of a pound actual. Seems logical to assume less parts = less weight and resulting effect on balance.

3-way switch is bridge position/series, but i'm not sure which mid and neck positions are parallel and single-coil. They sound somewhat different but i don't know which is which - but certainly the series bridge setting is obvious.

Greg set it up very nicely and i like the factory strings, so lots of playing time ahead.

I will make one "would like to see a change" comment however - about the hard case. The body cutout is quite large, rectangular. There is ALOT of free play with the instrument in there (Greg packed it securely). Would be nice if G&L could form-fit the body cutout to closer tolerances. I'd certainly cover an extra 20 bucks or whatever that might add to the overall cost, can't imagine it would be THAT much once the initial mold was done.

VERY BIG THANK YOU to Greg and his Rocket Music pals, AND to the other L-1000 fans who made this run possible.

Anyone want to buy an L-2000? ;)

Thank you, too, Jim! I'm glad you're digging it!

The only slight disappointments so far have been the case fit (they've all been slightly loose to varying degrees) and incorrect saddle wrenches being included. I've only had to ship one bass with the wrong wrench because I could rob a wrench from other basses I have in stock. G&L is sending me the right wrenches, so I'll be able to make everything right when all is said and done. Other than that, this has been a pretty stellar run so far. No major issues. Fingers crossed!

Mine arrived Thursday (natural/rw w/no face dots). It's everything I was hoping for when I requested lightweight and a nice/interesting grain pattern. Personally I think I like the series mode better than OMG -- although honestly I spend most of my time in parallel mode. I've been busy with a few things like my son's first college visit (spent the day in Austin visiting UT and checking out the aerospace engineering department) but have been spending some quality time with it. I need to change strings one more time to some SS flats (my faves on an L1K) and then this will settle nicely into my #1 solidbody spot.

It's very cool that folks will be able to continue ordering them at will.

That's mine. I received it yesterday, and it's exceeding my expectations.

The series/single/parallel pickup coil switching is excellent... all very usable tones... neck feels great... weight and balance are very comfortable. It even has a pleasant New Bass Smell.

I really like the color, too. :bassist:

Those metallic finishes are a beeotch to photograph nicely. They look so different depending on how the light hits them. I tend to use a lot of light to show the bling, but it can be hard to light the entire body evenly, ad that ends up showing you both the bling and how it looks in less bright light...

Got my L1005 - it is awesome! Finishes really look great, plays and sounds wonderful :) I agree with what the others said, the three way switch gives you many good tones. I did a demo here, its in single coil mode, bass and treble up all the way, pardon the sloppiness, but it gives you an idea of how it sounds (recorded directly into Garageband, clean amp setting):
