Wow, that's some serious bling alright! You really do a good job photographing these metallic finishes, btw. They are hard to get right, but you consistently manage to do so!

Thanks, Henrik! Metallics are indeed challenging to capture accurately, mainly because they look so different under different lighting conditions. I usually try to capture the sparklier looks, and the trick is in futzing with the lighting to get the best compromise between no glare, even coverage... and bling.

Beautiful basses both Clear red was my other choice for the L1005 - it does look very nice. That metallic Yukon Gold really pops - Greg's photos always look good.

Man, Brad - I really like your choices. Both of those were high on my list (although TBH I'm not a fan of the white pickup cover
I'm willing, but I'm a perfectionist about how the bass feels and sounds! I've only found 2 G&Ls that are so close to perfect for me that they are keepers so that holds the numbers down for me. My daughter doesn't like the white cover either, she said it's the exact color of cheap plastic! I like them for the contrast, especially because my other G&Ls have black covers.
I agree with all the people above about the great pics Greg! Thanks so much for making these happen, especially the L-1005. It's cool to think that I may have the very first right-handed one made ever!
On to the new basses: I don't think in all my crazy years of bass buying I've ever gotten two basses from the same manufacturer on the same day! It was like the best Christmas ever. I pulled the red L-1005 out first and it's really great. I agree that the low 9 lb area is just right for these, I think they would neck dive if they lost a pound. It feels lighter on a strap, very comfortable and neutrally balanced. I haven't gotten the whole bass dialed in yet, I had to give the neck a bit of relief and drop the bridge saddles a bit which is common for me. I did an initial adjustment on the pickup poles to even the string outputs, I'll have to do the final setup of neck and polepieces after it settles in.
This bass sounds absolutely spectacular! Thick and full and round, a little too much low end so I rolled the bass knob off a bit. The B is tight and clear, not flabby and muddy like some Bs. It may just be this bass but it sounds better than any other fretted 5 I've ever had. I'm not a big 5er guy so it's not an extensive list but there are plenty of top names on it. Needless to say I'm really happy with my L-1005 and I didn't even plug in the L-1000 yet! Many thanks to Greg and everyone involved in this run, I'm really glad I found out about it.

I have owned a number of G&Ls, and my L1005 feels very balanced and comfortable, and its tone is really clear and punchy, and yeah that B string is powerful, not muddy at all. I am also so glad I got in on this. Thank you Greg!

I finally stopped playing my L-1005 long enough to look at the serial number, yours is definitely earlier. I can at least be happy that mine is the first right handed one!
I just went to put mine into the G&L Registry on GBL and they already have designations for these limited runs in the Registry, look down at the bottom for "2014 L-1000/1005 Special Build".
