G&L Order Placed...the Waiting Begins!

I think they would build me a great JB...but if they don't, I certainly don't want to have to go through what you did. If they bent over backwards to take care of you then it would be a different story. At least give you a free G&L tour jacket or something at this point. :)

Well when this is all settled I'm going to say something on their FB again. We'll see what that does.

So the bass has been dropped off at the closest G&L dealer in the area. It will probably be another week until I see it again...if it can be fixed. The jack is an easy fix but the grounding hum might be more tricky. They don't really do electronic work in house unfortunately, but they can at least take a look.

I've already talked to Ben @ Jim's Music and told him that if this can't get resolved, I want my money back and he doesn't see a problem with it. In fact I probably could have said screw it, and asked for a refund without even checking into this problem.

I hope this whole experience hasn't soured the bass for me. I'm sure I'll get over it, but right now I'm no longer excited nor eager to play this bass. I just don't care any more one way or another.

I think I'm not even going to give them that chance. I'm calling today about the refund and picking up the bass I think. Like I said at this point the idea of owning a custom G&L doesn't appeal to me any more.

Man, I completely feel your pain. Its so disheartening to have this happen. The only thing I can tell you is that you are not alone. This has happened to others including myself and I'm not just talking about receiving a bass with a problem. I'm talking about the total bungling of a received instrument that is broken and sent back for repair or replacement. 15 weeks to get a good neck installed, with absolute incompetence being the excuse for the delay and then a broken jack. C'mon. Your talking about a lot of money and a whole lot of inconvenience. It is heartbreaking because you put so, so much faith in a brand that you just feel completely fooled. Like a jerk off that was so foolish to fall for the ********. Its true. I had my issues and I have come to my own conclusions about this brand and I don't believe in ordering a custom bass through a dealer miles away.

I hope you find solace and end up getting what you want with your hard earned money.

Me too. I just found out that I can't get a refund, at least not without a lot of kicking and screaming and even then, maybe not. I may be stuck with just getting it fixed after more hassle and then having to sell it if I really don't want it any more after this. The only problem is that since I've made these issues public that it could hurt me selling it, already at a loss.

How will it hurt? A broken jack is common and easily fixed. The ground issue could be a lot of things. But again, easily fixed. The neck has been replaced at the factory so that's not an issue.

The refund won't come from G&L but would have to come from your dealer. They could easily refund the money and have a new (not used) bass to sell from inventory.

Nah. The bass is a fine bass. It just has a bad jack and everyone in G&Ldom knows that this is normal for them. Its just unfortunate that this is the case but I suppose that after fixing the neck, or replacing it, they figure that its not something they want. Believe me, in time this is gonna simmer down and you won't feel so unfortunate or so jilted. You have to just get calm and think it through. Decide what you want to do. Do you want to keep it or do you want to send it back. If you want to send it back then pursue that. Kick and scream, write to the FB page and see how it shakes out. If you decide to keep it, then just see if you can find an authorized dealer/repair shop near you and have them do it under the warranty. I bet that in the end, you would love playing this instrument and all you have to do is just fix the jack. Once you plug it in, and you get hit with the tone, you might just sit there and say, "Damn. And I wanted to get rid of this?"

The dealer already told me that most likely they will NOT give me a refund and that it would have to come from G&L. The rep says he needs to talk to the owners but it doesn't look good. I would understand, I mean it's not their fault.

The probably is my local dealer isn't that knowledgeable in fixing these issues, at least past the jack. The ground issue may leave him stumped. He says usually if there is an issue they always send the basses back to G&L.

Sending it back to them will be even more of a waste of my time and I'm afraid they'd make me foot the shipping. Like I said they made me feel guilty for the fact that they had to foot the shipping the first time for the bad neck.
