I'll admit, I must be ass backwards compared to most.

My first two G&L's (if you don't count the SB-2 I had 20 years ago), were two custom shop models last year (Matador and L-2000). Since then, I've bought a Tribute ASAT Special guitar to bang around on and grabbed the Tribute JB that was the Musician's Friend Deal of the Day for $299. I am just blown away at the quality of these Tributes in their price category. This Tribute JB is sitting in a rack with 2 G&L Custom Shops, a NYC Sadowsky, a Dingwall ABZ, 2 Euro Spectors, and an All Parts P bass put together by a tech friend that is a Fender killer. This "Stupid Deal of the Day" does not feel like a lesser bass in most ways. Plays great and sounds great. Even the finish is nicely done.

I have the exact same JB as you do and mine sits proudly in a rack with3 MIA Fenders another tribute and a MIM Fender. The only complaint I've ever had with a tribute is the weight, otherwise the punch well above their weight class.

I have two of them:
2000 MIJ Tribute Series L-2000 Limited Edition
2002 MIJ Tribute Series L-2000 Premium Edition
Both play as well as, and in at least one case better than, some of my USA G&Ls. The workmanship on the MIJ models is absolutely top notch. They are both far and above my Indonesian L-2500.
As best as I can tell, the difference between the two is, with the Limited Series there is almost a Jazz bass profile; narrower nut, thinner neck. While the Premium Series has more of an old school P Bass feel; wider nut, chunkier neck, and also a less contoured body shape. That said, I cannot find any documented differences between the two models. Someone else here may know more details.

Got this heavy hitter direct from G&L as factory b-stock for a song.

A bit weighty at 9.7lbs (as listed by G&L) but the tone is huge.
I've been playing it a lot, and more than my U.S. builds.

I too got a tribute from the G&L store for a song....This Fallout is quickly becoming a favorite.

Sometimes the fit is not consistent, so a wrench might be a little looser than it should be.

I just found out the pickguards will not interchange on tributes. That's really sloppy.
OTOH, you can get a great one.

How do you like the Kilo? They have one in a shop near me that looks so sweet. They have that and a sb-2. I also have a US JB, which is so sweet. But I'm GASing for some MFD love.
Is the Kilo just to nasally and bright with no bridge pickup to balance it off?

I love my Kilo.
It's one of those basses that suits me so well.
I don't feel it's nasally. It can get pretty gnarly in the mids when in series, but I wouldn't call it nasally.
In parallel, it's got that scooped/compressed tone.
Single coil is my favourite setting, as it sounds very even across the spectrum.
Overall, it's a very "forward" sounding instrument.

Sweet, does it have a single coil hum or no because it's a humbucker. I might have to go play it!

Due to it's lack of a phantom coil, it does hum, but no more noticeable than any other single coil.
I definitely recommend giving it a go.
My buddy @armyadarkness Is a big time fan of it, and part of the reason I went for one.

I am not disappointed.

since getting a L2000 USA, I thought I’d sell the tribute, however I am having troubles letting it go haha. It is the best value out there and I got mine used for a great price.

Besides having a spare, what can I do with the tribute that will give me something the USA doesn’t give me? For example putting flat wounds on the tribute. Has anyone here done that ? If so, how did it sound?
