I just got my JB a few months ago on a stupid deal of the day from musicians friend . it was great right out of the box . I gave it a setup and new Dunlop Super brites and copper foil shielded the cavities . Best playing Jazz I have ever owned or played .

It's curious how your MF Stupid Deal turned out well whereas there was another TBer who purchased the exact same bass in the exact same way only to have it turn out to be a disaster. I don't doubt for an instant that your bass is a great player, nor do I doubt the other TBer's experience. It all just serves to highlight the luck of the draw that occurs when buying an instrument without ever having a chance to play it.

They put out some 21 fret JBs that would not intonate correctly . Mine is a 20 fret and it intonates fine . I also feel that I lucked out with this particular bass . I've had several Fender Jazzes that including a 08 Jazz Deluxe 5 and a 2011 American standard 5 and though both were great basses neither played all the way up the neck like this JB . Most basses I have had have trouble with fret buzz above the 12th fret . Maybe it's just the way I like my action low but the JB doesn't have that problem .

Yeah, mine has a little more honey hue, but the matching headstock sets them all off!

Congrats! How heavy is the Jb2, Armybass? I saw that you wrote it was heavy...

My L-2500 Tribute looks like a twin with less wood grain. I’ve noticed under stage lights the light brown areas of mine almost glow red which is very cool. I see the beginning of that color shift in your photo and bet it will do the same. Congratulations on your new bass!

My only Tribute was a honey. Bought it gently used with the intention of dropping the Dark Stars into it. One of my favorite mono-scale basses. Sold it after I got into multi-scale (Dingwalls)...

Don’t remember exactly but it’s a solid 10lbs or better. I am looking at a JB that is 12.11 lbs LOL.

Anyone here ever lay hands on Japanese Tribs? I’ve been curious about them for years. They are as rare as hen’s teeth here, though. And expensive, if you buy them directly from Japan.

I have two of them:
2000 MIJ Tribute Series L-2000 Limited Edition
2002 MIJ Tribute Series L-2000 Premium Edition
Both play as well as, and in at least one case better than, some of my USA G&Ls. The workmanship on the MIJ models is absolutely top notch. They are both far and above my Indonesian L-2500.
As best as I can tell, the difference between the two is, with the Limited Series there is almost a Jazz bass profile; narrower nut, thinner neck. While the Premium Series has more of an old school P Bass feel; wider nut, chunkier neck, and also a less contoured body shape. That said, I cannot find any documented differences between the two models. Someone else here may know more details.

I'll admit, I must be ass backwards compared to most.

My first two G&L's (if you don't count the SB-2 I had 20 years ago), were two custom shop models last year (Matador and L-2000). Since then, I've bought a Tribute ASAT Special guitar to bang around on and grabbed the Tribute JB that was the Musician's Friend Deal of the Day for $299. I am just blown away at the quality of these Tributes in their price category. This Tribute JB is sitting in a rack with 2 G&L Custom Shops, a NYC Sadowsky, a Dingwall ABZ, 2 Euro Spectors, and an All Parts P bass put together by a tech friend that is a Fender killer. This "Stupid Deal of the Day" does not feel like a lesser bass in most ways. Plays great and sounds great. Even the finish is nicely done.

Update. I sold the ASAT guitar as it was not getting played by me. However, still have two Tributes. A new short scale Fallout, and modded my JB with new pots, a push/pull series/parallel tone pot, Dimarzio J pickups, and a pickup cover.
