Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

I wrote a week or two ago about how I was tired of carrying around an old GK 210 weighing 57.5 pounds. I can't afford to have some Fear cabs built right now, but something had to give. So I bought a used Neo 115-III weighing in at 40. I haven't gigged it yet, but I was so pleased with my purchase I just bought another one. Went to GC online and found a second one, snapped it up. Tax and shipping, $325. (First one was $308!)

Now I gotta get someone to buy the old 210 BLX... I suppose I could let it go for as little as $100. I'll throw it up on craig's list tonight just for grins.

BTW, here's the first one.

So....Ive had a GK MB212-ii for about 2 1/2 years now and it had been only gig rig(and first GK btw). Around last Nov. or so I bought a Rumble rig(500 head+210 cab) as a backup/alternate, and since have been using it mainly...digging the old school tone with a P bass. However, the other day I plugged my 77 Jazz back into the GK and remembered what I liked about the GK:) This Jazz bass in particular seems to like the GK much better, i run it through a Diamond compressor to thicken things up a bit, but its much snappier and overall tighter sounding than the Rumble. Ill be bringing that Jazz and the GK back out this weekend, although at 13-ish lbs it's going to kill my back and shoulder, they are a killer combo.

Kinda curious. Anyone here tried their GKs with the SWR 12" speakers? The WM's 12, 12 stack, or 12 Pack. The YT videos I saw make them sound amazing, and I loved Robbie Merrill's live tone. I have an Ampeg 410HE but I thought I'd try something different or even pair the Am peg with an SWR.

I was gonna check out the GK Neo or Avatar cabs but the SWRs seemed to be tuned to sound more vintage, which I dig.

Not sure about the 12's, but my 700RBII sounded amazing through my Son Of Bertha 115 when I had it. Also sounded amazing through the Goliath III 4x10. I wouldn't hesitate to pair GK with SWR. They made some of my favorite cabs ever and I think GK/SWR compliment each other nicely. If I ever find another SOB or Goliath III in decent shape I'm gonna snatch it up, weight be damned.

Got to love that GK articulation and clarity!

Yeah, I decided I'm pretty set on the SWR cabs. I got a SVT 410E or an EV 1x15 cab I could pair with the 12-Stack.

I've seen SOBs and GIIIs for ~$250. I've also seen Big Berthas for ~$350. If it wasn't for the weight, I would grab any one of those to pair with my GK heads.

Then again, if it wasn't for the weight I would still own my Goliath Sr (with PAS speakers), which IMO is one of the best sounding cabs I've ever played through.

Here you go guys. I believe this is a cab that was being discussed earlier

Used Energy 2x15 Bass Cabinet W/ Road Case Owned by Stu Hamm

Welp, there it is. The cab I wanted initially.

So hard to find, though. :(

EDIT: Quick question for those in the know of GK gear. Any clue what the older 115's were loaded with? The older ones from the '80s and '90s like the pink-logo'd (forgot the name) and the white logo'd 115T. I heard they were loaded with EVM speakers, but I'm not too sure.

The GK 1x15's are way too "mid focused" for the tone that I'm after; so I'm looking to get either (two) Mesa Boogie Subway 1x15's or two of the Powerhouse 1x15's to go with my Fusion 550 head; Anyone have that setup or even one similar, say with a 700RBII or 1001RBII? I'm thinking that'll sound killer since the two (Avatar) 2x10 cabs I'm using now already sounds really good, but the Mesa 15's should give me that extra warmth and punch that I'm looking for that I just can't get with the 10's.

So I received a few requests for the TSK at the GK NAMM party the JT Bass Jam since I originally posted it.
Basically for folks to hear the 1001 with the NEO 412.
So hear it is again

Just out of curiosity, what drivers did you have in your Avatars? I used a few different versions of the B210 with GK gear, and might be able to better help with that bit of info. Would also recommend not limiting yourself to 15s - I'd say test out as many cabs as you can to see what you like best with your rig. It'll likely have more to do with cab tuning than driver size (as you found with the GK Neo 115).

Hey Thanks, I appreciate that. I've always leaned towards 15's even from way back; I was convinced or "talked into" going with 2x10's over a 1x15 and found that there was something missing but couldn't exactly put my finger on what it was at the time (I was coming from an Ampeg BA-115 combo) and now realize it's that more rounded, warmer tone that I'm not getting with the 2x10 cab (I A/B'd them before selling the combo), so I added a second one (2x10) and it is better, but in the end I'm now convinced that 15's are what's gonna do it -(for me anyway). Thanks again, and I will keep an open mind/ear out for other options or suggestions.
