Gallien Krueger Club. GK Rules !

Anyone know where I can find an amp bag for a GK legacy 800 by chance? They seem sold out everywhere. I’m fine chucking it in a backpack… but… ya know. :bookworm:
Used laptop bag. Piles at the resale stores. I got one that is still going after 15 years of MB’s and now the L800. Tough as nails! Has room for a DI as well, plenty of cable storage, etc, $5.

Welp, there it is. The cab I wanted initially.

So hard to find, though. :(

EDIT: Quick question for those in the know of GK gear. Any clue what the older 115's were loaded with? The older ones from the '80s and '90s like the pink-logo'd (forgot the name) and the white logo'd 115T. I heard they were loaded with EVM speakers, but I'm not too sure.

115T white logo cabs contained the EVM. I picked one up yesterday. When I've figured out how to pop the grille without destroying it, I'll pull the driver and work out whether it's an EVM-15L or B, 200 or 400 watt (probably 200).

It's a 15B, built week 21 1995, 200 watts @ 8ohms.

As I understand it, the line out - 1/4 inch TRS to XLR - is supposed to drive the MBP, and the DI is for PA or recording.
Have you tried the plex that way?

Sorry to bring this up again as it seemed answered, but I was looking at the Plex and I'm wondering what qualifies as the line out. I see an effect loop send, an output and headphone out... Which is the "line out"? Perhaps not the headphone as it's 1/8"....

Quarter inch output on the back is output, to your amp, or IEM. DI is to FOH or stage box. Send and return is effects. Or at least that's how I run it. My output is to in- ears transmitter..

The line out is the 1/4 inch output labeled "output." On the top edge of the unit, it's the last one on the left as you look at it.

As the other TBer says above, that output goes to your amp or IEM or to a GK powered cabinet.

After owning a Fusion 112 Combo for a year and a half I decided to change it for a Legacy head, since I got some cabinets and not carrying a combo any more (gives me more possibilities for combining).

Was perfectly satisfied with a sound of Fusion DI post EQ tube preamp out, but just wanted something simpler, and since I recently acquired an Ampeg Pf-T50 tube head, I thought the Legacy 800 would be a great addition for louder gigging needs.

I just made a DI out test comparison with the Ampeg Pf-T50 like I did with a Fusion few months ago.
Although I am completely satisfied with the sound and capabilities of the Legacy I still think that the Fusion, although much more complicated and confusing to use, has a slightly better sound probably due to the tube preamp.

Here is the test I recorded :). If interested, comparison of the Fusion and Ampeg You can also found on my YT channel.

I have a Fusion 800 212 combo plus a 212 cab. I have been thinking about getting a Legacy head just for variety. I mean, who owns only 1 pair of shoes, right?

I love the sound of the Fusion. My concern was, exactly as you have stated, the Legacy would not be quite as good to my ears as the Fusion given the lack of tube pre. I am sure some people love the reverse scenario.

I am thinking about the Fusion combo 212, can you speak to your experience with it? Pros/cons? Do you get the full 800 without an extension? Do you foresee or do you use an extension cab with it? Is this combo good for small/medium/large/outside gigs? It's pricey, and where I live there are no music shops to try it out in. Anything you can share will help. Thanks! -Bill

I love this combo! I loved the Fusion 550 and I find the Fusion 800 is in th esame neighborhood for tone. Just no motorized controls. It has infinite abilities for tone shaping given each knob also has a pull up boost component. I keep it basic and boost only the low frequency a bit. If hi-fi means a very sterile sound then I would not call the 212 sterile. GK have their sound which I find to be modern, punchy and on the brighter side. All of which I like. In truth, I have not done much exploring with the tone shaping. I followed the GK instructions on how to set the trim and volume controls and have mainly used flat settings on the EQ.

As to power, the specs say this - "800W @ 4 ohms (internal), 800W @ 4/8 ohms with extension cab." There is a switch to select what your set up is i.e. extension cab or not. To me that says the full 800 is available no matter what. I have taken the extension cab but not do not bother anymore. If I take it I mainly use it to get the combo off the floor. It is more than powerful enough on its own. Maybe you would need the extension at an outdoor gig with no P.A. support. But in general it is loud! Still maintains great tone at low settings.

Very portable and very clean, sleek looking.

The controls are on the top of the cabinet. If I put the combo in the extension cab, I have to almost stand on my toes to see the controls. I am only 5' 6". That might be the only drawback for me. I always say I am 5' 6" in a 6' world.

I think the Fusion series is some of GK's finest engineering.

My 2 cents.

Looking for a service recommendation...

I have an MB800 with fans that won't come on. GK service is not accepting work other than warranty, which this is not. There are no decent repair shops in my town, Sarasota FL.

So where do you guys go for amplifier service between Tampa and Ft Myers ? Thanks.

Just curious as I am looking to purchase a new bass rig, do any other companies service their heads or cabs beyond the warranty? For instance, does Mesa Boogie?

My buddy has an M6 Carbine head and says
...no. Nor can he find for some reason, anyone to work on it. Which I find hard to Fathom (pun).

When someone writes about a problem they're having with their Mesa amp on the Mesa page, they'll often get input from the guy who designed the amp giving them recommendations on what to do and who to contact.

I used to gig with two Mesa M-6 Carbine heads.

Authorized Mesa Service Centers "will not" work on them.

Mesa "will not" make available to unauthorized techs, schematics or parts for the Carbines.

The M-6 and M-9 Carbines "have to be returned to the California factory for service."
