Gallien Krueger MB and MBP 112

Yep Dave's little GK rig is very nice. I've used it maybe three or four times on gigs and have put it in many different situations and each time it totally does the job. The tone is great, the power is definitely loud enough and the portability is very convenient. For around $750 that's hard to beat. I would love to get a GK MB212 II, that way I could just one hand the entire bass rig. I'm guessing it's basically the same thing as the 112 MB/MBP in one package? With an extra 100 watts.

I know the powered cabs are meant to be used with GK combos, but that being said could you use one with Avalon U5?

Mine fit perfectly on top of each other, but they're first generation MBP & MB-II units. Haven't heard anything regarding the latest production units.

@Thornton Davis I'll ask the obvious--how does this perform for you? How often do you use the double stack? I guess the 410 would do for most gigs? This may be an unfair question-- when using both together can you get any kind of SVT like sound out of it when you turn it up?

Would the balanced XLR out from an Ampeg SDR-DI do it?? (Ampeg's website says that the balanced XLR out is 6db hotter than the line out jack, but that doesn't tell me what the db output is of either one).

Thanks mmbongo. I wonder if the SCR-DI's balanced XLR out would have enough voltage to adequately drive a SS power amp that has 1.25v input sensitivity?

I have the Mb112II combo amp and am seriously considering getting the matching powered cab.

However, I had the same thought as this guy:

What are the pros and cons of the two options? The powered cabinet is only a $30 savings.

If anyone is still following this thread... I am looking for an MBP cab, and in 2021 they are really hard to find. I have an mb112 and want a supplement for special occasions. I don’t need 500 watts of 2x12 (or the $800 price tag)....but that appears to be the only MBP cab GK makes. But an extra 200 watts in a single 12 or 15 would be perfect.

Well, I have one, the main MB112 has a blown driver , but the MBP112 is fine. Not sure I want to sell it, but I’m not using it since I have my Mesa Subway rig. PM me and we can talk
