How this horn really works ?

I mean I put my ear near the horn area and I hear nothing. I only hear slight hiss but I've heard this is normal.
When the horn switch is ON I really don't hear any much difference in treble register.
Maybe I can't hear difference because I play with low volume ?

Try with elec guitar ,keyboard or digital drum, you can easy to hear the different between horn on and off if you think you have hearing problem.

But , I believe the horn is malfunction.

If horn have problem, that's means the combo still have QC issue even 100% made in USA.

The hiss is there, so it's working. I just don't hear anything coming from it.
When I unplug bass and turn the treble all the way up - horn hisses more.

I dont use the horn anyway, I just messed up with my settings.

See if others hear it. I stopped hearing the tweeter on my GK212.

Everybody else could still hear it.

I'm not deaf ... not yet ! But Its a good idea
I may have slight tinnitus in my left ear since 2010. Nothing really bothering now, I get used to it. Too much concerts and listening music too loud.

I found that the GK horn has range something 4kHz and above ... Maybe this is too high, since bass guitar moves in the lower register ?
I simply don't get it - if there is hiss, IT MUST BE WORKING. But I don't hear anything beside hiss.

I gig with this amp and usually turn the horn off,it doesn't add a lot. Sounds like the horn is working if you can hear hiss,The mb115 is an excellent combo though

I really don't care much about this horn. My style is a bit Lemmy'ish so I don't need horn. It bothered me, that this horn will maybe not work properly tho ...

I don't think you mentioned it, but what bass are you using? What strings? Are they dead? Any effects or anything in the chain that would be cutting out those highs?

The horn will only be able to reproduce those frequencies if they're there to begin with.

What he said. All I typically hear from mine is light hiss when it's turned on, so I leave it off. I don't see where the horn really adds anything, for my style of playing at least.

Bass : Rickenbacker 4003 2017.
Strings : Dunlop Stainless Steel 50-110. Half step down tuning (Eb). Strings are rather new - 2-3 weeks.
Effects - ZERO. I simply plug bass into input. Gain and volume at 9 o'clock, EQ and boost everything is on middle, limiter ON.

This hiss is pretty "normal" hiss, not a hum or buzz - just regular hiss and the hiss will be increased when I turn the treble up in EQ.

This combo horn covers high treble, that passive bass guitars often lack. Try scratching your fingernail over the strings with horn on and off, you should hear a difference. If not, try aux in with some music.

BTW, you have GK MB115 MK1, not MK2 (black grill).

No. I have the MK2 with black grill. This is the USA version opposed to MK1 (china)

I tried to scratch strings with my fingernails and I think it finally worked. I've heard a difference, it was small, very subtle but noticeable. Now I know that Horn works and I will it alone now

I don't know WHY they put the horn there. The difference is so small that I had to put my ear near the horn to hear if it works or not. I even set the treble all the way up to amplify this. To me, this is really crap, but who I am ? I play bass for bit more than month so this is my only opinion. I can only imagine that with some OD plugged in, the sound from horn will be terrible.

I don't use this horn anyway so I really don't care about it. But it's good to know that there are more poeple with similar point of view about this horn.

I can only imagine that with some OD plugged in, the sound from horn will be terrible.

Many ODs limit the amount of distorted HF content, which is why I asked if you were using any effects. One more thing to note on this front - and this is a general comment, not just about the tweeter in question: the HF content from tweeters becomes more apparent the louder that you get. At lower volumes, I could totally see how it might seem that it isn't doing anything - especially if it was at volumes where you could safely put your ear up against it.

If I play right next to an amp with a horn, I can't tell either. Once I step 10 feet or so away, I can hear a difference. Your band and audience should be able to hear the difference as well.
