Gallien-Krueger MB2-500: Part II

An A00 is an A00 and they are all the same, and were the first units shipped. We will update any A00 to the latest Rev upon request no charge.
Bob
Thanks Bob. I assume then, that once a unit is updated, it's serial number also changes, so there'd always be a clear indicator of the update level of the amp... regardless of if it shipped originally that way or not. I think that was kind of the core question... at least in my mind it would be.

+1 That's at the heart of what I was talking about, too.

My experience was that my A00 series unit was replaced with a new A07 unit - so it, of course, had a different (A07 series) serial number. I know I got a new unit because some sticker residue that had been on the outer case was not there when I received by new unit. I got the replacement lightening fast and have been 110% satisfied with both the MB2-500 and GK's unyielding commitment to customer satisfaction.

We do not update Rev A00, we replace them. Also I should mention that the majority of the A00 units shipped work just fine with no problems, but we made the decision to replace any units that people want updated.

Thanks Bob. Once again, superb service as usual. :)

I have an A06 and its awesome!! Just, when the fan kicks in, its pretty loud. I do a lot of pit work for theatre shows and hope the fan wont be too loud. Anyone else have this problem? But apart from that, I am loving this BEAST!!!!! I still have my 1001RB-II and haven't used it in weeks!! I'm not sure I want to sell it yet!!

Great customer service in this day and age. Thanks to you guys on here I contacted Brian and they repaired mine. Working again after a strange clipping issue. Just wanted to say thanks and recommend GK's if you are looking for a great company that gives a damn about their products and what players think.

I could not get the whole crew together for comparing the 700RB and MB2-500 so I just went over to the guitarist house and played around. I can't open things up at all at my house

I had a GS112 cab and an Avatar B210 Neo. This was the first time I mixed these two cabs since swapping the speaker in the GS112 to a 2512 Deltalite. I did not need to get loud. I had an A/B box to switch between a 700RB and a Rev A00 MB2-500. I started with the 700RB with EQ flat and an RV5 running with no tone cut and a smidge of boost on the bass and treble. It was too clanky for my liking but had a nice bottom and pleasant cutting mid. I turned off the tweeter on the GS112 and ran 50% on the B210Neo and switched over to the MB2-500 with a slight boost on both mids (which should be flat with the latest tweaks). Pulled off a little treble, boosted a little bass, put the boost at 3/4, cut the passive tone to 50% on the bass, and wow. I never went back to the 700RB. It was warm, rich, and defined. I still have not had a chance to do stupid loud, but man did the MB2-500 sound great. I think I am sold. This small package can definitely do a great sound at lower volumes. I did crank it for a few obnoxious minutes and it sounded like it scaled nicely. Given I still have a 2 rack space amp that goes loud, even if the MB2-500 doesn't get stupid loud, it's a nice option to have. And I get the impression from others on here that I won't be dissipointed when I get a chance to really crank it up.

just wanted to say that the CS at Gallien Krueger is stellar IMO, as I had an issue with my MB2. Made a quick call to GK, & they faxed a shipping label, sent it in, badda boom, badda bing, it's back, with a new I/O board, & pre. Also want to personally say thank you Mr Krueger for taking the time out of your very busy schedule while you were there at NAMM to answer a couple of quick PM's that I sent.

also, can't wait 'till the MBFusion drops :hyper:

And more complaining about the dual channel feature. When I set the Boost and Master B at 12 oclock, I am already louder than the Master maxed out when I go clean. If one likes a lot of Boost, Master B is going to be set way low if you want the clean volume to be anywhere close. I like the idea of two channels as I like both tones a lot, but they should just take the features out the amp, save the cost of the cable and foot switch, and knock a few dollars off the product. Or make the dual channel thing right. All of course IMHO.

I have a small PA beside my MB500 and I can tell you that neither Master volume of Boost Master has any impact on DI out. If you want to switch between boost and clean channel into a PA I would think you would need to use the Line Out, which is controlled by both the Master and Boost Master, making it easy to control levels while switching boost on or off. I have been using this amp for a year and 4 months now and I love it and like the boost feature just fine like it is.

It gets loud, stoopid loud! I was amazed at how loud both my new MB2-500 and Fusion 550 get compared to other amps I have used.

Rag, (Bob G.),
I just gave my 26 year old G.K. 800 a little brother...a new G.K. MB2-500.
My unit is a A05, has there been any problems with these heads?
Thanks.

Mine is an A05 too. I had GK lower the input gain (personal preference) and replace the power indicator blue led when it failed but have never experienced any performance issues with the amp and I run it hard and loud.

And if products have a reputation, changing the name can be a good marketing move. I redesigned a form fit function product for natural gas engine ignition and the company changed the name completely to differentiate the new product from the old product which had reliability problems.
