Gamers, what are you playing these days?

Yahtzee is just as biased, only toward unrelenting bleak and quite funny negativity. I've watched all his video's and from the top of my head he's only been unreservedly positive about portal one. Which is a big part of his comedic appeal of course. But I find I often quite enjoy games he's found nothing but fault with.

I tend not to take his reviews as being all that serious, more just comedy (I've played more BF3 than anything else in the past 2 years).

Though I do particularly like and agree with his review looking back at Half Life :smug:

Tends to be because most games aren't for everyone and everybody rates game extremely subjectively, so you get a whole bunch of 12 year old kids who don't "get" strategy games rating them waaay down because "4X super space exploration and micromanagement" it's not as good as Call of Duty Blackops or it's "too confusing". Then you get a whole brand/game loyalty thing, where a bunch of people who rate play CoD rating BF:3 as a 1/10, and vise versa because "BF sux go play a reel game like cod."

So yeah, it ends up being pretty useless on a whole really, and doesn't give you any indication of how good the actual game is. Even when you read game reviews, by professional game reviewers, more often than not they suffer from extreme bias, to the point where I personally trust the marketing spiels to give me a better and more objective opinion. At least I know what I'm getting is a sale pitch and I can take it with a grain of salt.

It would be nice if people could review game for what they are intended to do, what they set out to accomplish and how well they met those goals, rather than pitting them in an open field and making blaze comparisons. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be the case though :(

Yeah, I've often thought about those concepts you mentioned, and it makes sense. Still, it doesn't stop me from leaving Steam and looking for reviews anyway.

I've been going on YouTube to look at gameplay also - that's the best way for me to see whether or not I might enjoy it.

I watch his videos for games I love and 99% of the time i have to laugh because he's right.

As large as hddspace and reason allow them to be. Which is ever larger.

I remember installing starcraft 1 for about 80 mb, and thinking 'preposterous! Where will it end? 200 megs!?'

That's funny because when I bought my first computer in 1996/7 for $1700, it had a 1.8 GB hard drive. I asked the sales person, "Are you sure that 1.8 is enough?"

He said, "Trust me, that's more than you'll ever need."

Just started playing Defiance since I enjoy shooters and MMOs. The shooter part is pretty fun, but there's not a lot of social interaction.

Yes. The game has a decent amount of potential but lacks a few things that most people need to get immersed in an MMO. I'm just hoping that all the console gamers not used to MMOs will have the patience to stick with it as the developers iron out the initial problems and do some major overhauls. If the lackluster initial version of the game turns too many people off, they might never get enough traction to sustain it in the long run and actually polish it up to a decent product.

I feel like there's a lot less leeway to make this console game work than there would be on a solely PC game.

I rememeber the first PC which we got, which had a 4Gb HDD and being blown away by that, the previous closest thing we had was an Amiga 1200, floppy drive only and no harddrive! The following PC had a 20Gb HDD followed by a 200Gb HDD a few years back. Each time thinking "Woah! Never going to fill that!".

However, these days, I spec-ed up a new PC and can't help but think "4Tb? I wonder if that's enough!".

I was reading about it in maximum PC. Gotta wonder how large games will continue to get...

I played this game with my clan and 2 friendly clans when it first came out a while ago. In a word, massive.

We had a full platoon of our guys and some randoms who were running around with us for a while (around 48), and each of our other friendly clans had the same. Each clan had it's own air and armor teams, as well as infantry groups (obviously). Communication was somewhat of an issue until we got the commanders from each clan on the same TS and used in-game voice chat for those not at the command level, but my god was it something else to see. 130+ people all converging on a cap-point and unleashing a coordinated 3 pronged attack was really amazing.

Can I clan up with you? I played it once so far and had no clue what I was doing. It seems like it could be awesome but to be honest, I need help.

I saw some online clips and there was like 300 guys all battling at one time. Lag is a problem apparently though, and it should be with that many people online at once.
