Gay Musicians

I am straight but I have a few friends that are gay/lesbians. A couple of them are singers. I don't see gay, color of skin, race or what not..I see a friend and a person. And you are welcome to be my friend too...you don't have to feel lonely-cause u have friends out here in the world, gay and straight! :)

With the whole homophobia/gay bashing thing there was a really awesome Aussie comedian that made a great observation; what's gayer then wanting a pretty looking, flowery smelling petite woman? "Nah mate, I wanna sweaty bloke with a big hairy arse!"

I do a fair bit of geeky online gaming and you come across so many Nazis it's unbelievable, and it's great winding them up. On this msn style thing for gaming on my my profile I have the anarcho-syndicalist flag and one guy called me and "antifa ******" when I asked him if he wanted to play a WW2 game with me. Despite me despising antifa's very fa movement, and somewhat perplexed that a national socialist wouldn't wouldn't play AGAINST me with his favoured nazi army despite me encompassing everything he's not about, I simply went on to tease him and all that childish carry on and he was steaming. It's funny how a brutal fascist can't deal a mincing little wind up :p

I imagine that many of them are sequestered in their parent's bunker. :D

That is a slippery slope though, because I have an aversion to any group that requires more than 2 adjectives/descriptive words to describe themselves. Gay Bassists is already two and if they name themselves the deluth gay bassists well damnit that is three and against my rules.

Look you can be a transexual eskimo and I am fine with that, or a eskimo nazi, not great but ok, or even a transexual nazi, confusing but probably historically accurate, but the minute you call yourself a transexual nazi eskimo, I got a problem.

At least I haven't felt the need to disclaimer my own sexuality in this thread (despite my need to be irreverent in this post). Because like my sarcastic musical summation about "gay modes" and "gay scales", me being straight, gay, bi, or tri has no effect on my music or the validity of my thoughts. It is like saying that me being an a-hole affects my tax bracket!

Ken

I'd expect that if any Queer bass club were started on TB then its name would likely make use of the acronym LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual) commonly employed by the LGBT community at large.

An example of the title and OP of such a group could look something like this:

*turns in dashing profile, right hand tucked behind his back, and occasionally rising slightly on his forefeet while affecting a bad 'Wing Commander Nigel' accent*

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

"Right then. I would like to draw your attention, if I may, to the Queer HQ Global Situation Map."

"As you all can see, we've had smashing good luck in the dark blue-coloured northern hemisphere of the Americas, here *tap*, and here *tap*, along with a more measured success further south, and onwards over the pond *makes a sweeping gesture* to the United Kingdom, and further still, into the European Union."

"Unfortunately, in the Middle East, much of Africa, and portions the Pacific Archipelago *points to stage left* marked in brown, red, and orange, we have enjoyed tragically limited success in spite of the persistent application of our considerable charm." :D *gleam*

*with both hands now clasped behind his back, he turns to face the assembly revealing polished shoes, neatly pressed trousers, and matching tailored jacket whose left lapel is adorned with a pink triangle button & white ribbon citation*

"I will now open the floor to those of you who undoubtedly have pertinent inquires re our on-going mission, a comprehensive assessment of which can be found here."

"Afterwards, I invite you all to retire to the thea-tah for a recital of musical compositions which employ extensive use of Gay scales, and/or Gay arpeggios."

You'll be lucky if the real devil goes so easy on you guys :p

The whole "civil partnership" thing still doesn't make any sense to me, even weirder with my dad been in one too. Everyone I've talked to about the whole deal overall in the UK either just refers to it as marriage or doesn't really see it as legitimate at all, well I've not spoken to many saying that being a white boy with dreads going halfway down my back, but I've heard a few say it... Funny that they have to be so pussyfooted about what they call it legally when people see it like that though.

+1 À numéro un et numéro deux. ;)

Not to piss in your Cheerios but the French word for number is nombre.

Of course I am sure you were cleverly throwing some Spanish or Italian in there.

Oh you are going to ask why the guy who dislikes the French knows this. Six years of French in grade school. Six years. I could have gotten an MBA in less time. I could have gone to medical school, I could be curing cancer. Yet I am saddled with a language that has no use in this country (or many places in the world) and the lack of usage for it means I hardly remember material from those 6 years. I can however tell you that Pangloss got the Syph because it is the best of all possible worlds.

Damn French! HEEHHEHEHE!

Ken

In reading the OP, I don't have an answer - because I don't care whether musicians are gay or not. It's no issue with me, so it's not something I pay attention to - any more than what color shoes they wear.

It's up to each person to live their own life and connect with others. The fewer issues you make into a big deal, the fewer you have to overcome.

It worked! I outed your français! :D

No, I'm definitely not clever--just confused.

Oh well. I'm used to it! ;)

I'd imagine that 6 years of french would come in handy if you attend the Mardi Gras some time or if you ever go to/gig in Europe.

If my French-Canadian mother (who survived this hell after her own mother died ) had her way I'd be fluently bilingual--if it weren't for that sot!.. :spit:

That form seems more idiomatic. As in figure of speech, specific to talking of specific numbers not the word itself. Not sure why.

My father was fluent in Spanish and Italian, wish I had learned those better, both come in more useful than French on any given day.

That's hilarious! I was just about to post a thread for gay/bi bassists then I saw this thread! LOL Weird how coincidences happen like that sometimes!

So this is probably the best place as any, to say that I want to get in contact with other gay & bisexual male bassists.

Hit me up! ;)

It seems everyone here is straight and commenting how it shouldn't matter.

I tend to agree.

That or mocking the French.

I imagine that being multilingual would substantially expand one's jamming/musical learning and gigging opportunities.

Knowing some French should give you a leg up:

Learning Spanish

Learning Italian

In NC you need to speak redneck! Just kidding. Seriously though I got enough Italian and Spanish under my belt to get the gist most days if written or spoken slowly. My sentence construction is weak though.

Wish I had better retention of the bit of Japanese and Hindi I learned.

I have been trying to work on my Spanish for the sake of teaching it to my kids from day one. I am a firm believer that teaching your child Spanish or Mandarin from the start is like giving the kid $1 Million. And since I have no clue where to begin with Mandarin...
