The Pink Cadillac is a testament to my insouciance over sexual inclination.
I think that may be where some of the confusion comes from. When I think of how I identify with my bandmates or other musicians, sexual preference is not part of that. I don't think this makes me open-minded or "cosmopolitan" or whatever because I honestly don't care who they tag anymore than what they had for breakfast or what their favorite color is. I don't mean "I don't care" in the "it doesn't matter to me" sense, I mean "I don't care" in the "if you start talking about any of the three things above I'll likely cut you off by saying 'I don't care' because I believe that conversation will be a waste of my time" sense. It's not that i place sexuality on a pedestal at all. It's just ben nice to find some music-makers that I can identifying with on all those levels.![]()

If I didn't *just* acquire a new sig, you'd be all mine!I am a pre-op trans woman.

OMG one of my best friend's moms is a post-op trans woman who is into DIY recording gear and has made several unique instruments. She's partnered, but it still might be a cool connection to make.
EDIT: I don't think she's into nintendo, though.![]()
Hey folks. I'm a newly registered member here. Got a question I've been thinking about for a while.
Are you openly gay?
I am, and I find it kinda lonely. I've been out for several years, ever since I went to college. But I dont' seem to meet many other gay musicians. Queer musicians I have met seem mostly to be involved with the dance scene in some fashion, either as DJs (Yes, I consider them musicians), or the punk/rock scene. Oh, and singer/songwriters, too. But I don't think I've ever met another openly gay bassist or drummer, and certainly no one who is interested in funk or jazz, as I am.
So I'm just curious to know if there's anyone else out there like me. What's your local queer music scene like? Any queerly musical communities around your area? Lookin' for some solidarity, here!
Alex
nintendo is a metaphor.

You know, Schotland really isn't that far from here.. Wanna play Nintendo?![]()
Re-reading this thread just reminds me of how fortunate I am to play in a band with four other similarly minded people![]()

First of all, welcome to the forum. And no, I'm not gay, but most gay musicians I've heard are/were on the radio, i.e. Boy George, Rob Halford, Freddie Mercury, and George Michael. But most people who live the "alternative lifestyle", at least the ones I've met, are the "clubbers". I DO wonder if they'd rather do that or "karaoke" than play in an actual band...
There is an area in Dallas where the gays meet, but I've heard that the bands that play there...play there exclusively since they're "blackballed" from other clubs for playing in gay bars.
Lasly finding musicians that share common interest in music is very difficult...gay or not. To me, the music is most important! And if it's funk and jazz, then so be it.
Good luck in finding what you're looking for.
What is the name of your band, Tbird? I might try to round up some of my crew to go out and see you sometime.![]()
