But here on Tb we have a handful of openly gay members, and I consider them brothers and sisters just the same. I can't relate to the lonely thing, in fact IMO, some alone time would be great :p. Still, with that said friendship, or even companionship, is never based solely on a persons sexual preference. I have friends that are various degrees of gay and straight, but it's not why we're friends.

sounds like you MAY (i say may because Im assuming) be doing things ass backwards. the thing is its normal as to how anyone would approach your situation.

you cant look for gay musicians in groups of musicians, especially when your looking for a a specific type of music enthusiasm.

you cant just look amongst that already small sect of your style of musicians because you face 2 major issues.theres not alot of gay culture wrpped up in that musical bacground so those who are my need feel like calling attention to it for frea of discrimination and you being sans flamboyancy may not be projecting that beacon of hope for anyone because true music nerd come off somewhat asexual anyway... they dont call it bass porn for nothin.

in short you dont go into a gay club and ask everyone youre attracted to "whats the chances youre a funk/jazz musician"
you dont walk into a jazz/funk gig or show and yell "IM GAY..WHOS WITH ME"
if youre not doing this it will never be as obvious as it is with club DJs and such where you walk in almost somewhat presuming there will be SOME gay musicians.

my advice check out gay centered live musical events...if you narrow down your fields to "where are the 2 types of people i want to meet most likely to be at?" its no longer like finding a needle in a haystack. especially because naturally as musicans we will promote within our comfort zone. if theres a live drag show or fetish or burlesque show..chat up some of the musicians, even if thyre not as downtempo as you or into the same stuff ITS ALL ABOUT NETWORKING.

"well im more into euro trash acid rock techno...BUT my buddy Jim over there plays in a Parliament cover band, let me introduce you"

and bam let the tangled web of social networking begin!

sorry im so long winded but im a dude who never sits still for too long, i move ALOT so i have learned how to meet people who are into the stuff im into very fast so im not deeply lonely sitting on the couch everynight with my wife..hit the ground running and YOU choose who you wanna be around and things will go much better, i promise

To be honest, I already knew that going into this. I'm not really searching for a solution to my problem. Mostly just trying to get people talking. :D The topic of gay musicians doesn't come up too often, so I figured I'd bring it up, for better or for worse.

I think "doing things" is putting it too strong. I'm actually pretty good at networking, and talking to new people. I just have a pretty busy life already, plus a relationship that I WANT to spend a lot of time in. I live too far out of the city to really make it convenient to network. I'm sure if I really decided to spend the time I could find some people who fit my hypothetical gay/funky ideal.

DEFINITELY not around my neck of the woods. Seattle proper and the adjacent surrounding regions are the only places for that, as far as I've ever known. The east-side is just too far out for the queer crowd, it seems. It'd be nice if that would change a little.

I play with gay musicians often and strangely enough sexuality never really comes up in conversation. I guess I'm not really interested in that aspect of their life nor they mine. I'd also think the polarizing effect of that conversation with some people makes it a third rail issue. I'm cool with cool people. Period.

OTOH there's one group of musicians I work with who go out of their way to ridicule homosexuals at every turn. And they think it's hysterical. Complete homophobes. It's only mildy annoying at this point... it's their problem, not mine. In any event it's a gig.

Doesnt matter to me either.. As a matter of fact, I have a lot of gay friends, but none of them play instruments...

im trying to get back there by next july... my wife has to put more time in her position here before we shoot for her BIG job back there. ive been all over and the eclectic population, small town feel with big city vibe and the fact that Morris Day and the MF Time play the casino all the time are all things i cant live without anymore. it will be the first and last place i put down roots. plus i miss uptown and vietnamese food.
