This has my attention. What is the story on that bass?

Had a very early Kubicki X Factor bass. I eventually let my sense of style overrule my sense of hearing and sense of touch and I sold it. It was all of the following; very ugly, best playing bass at any price I have ever owned, best variety of tones of any bass at any price I have ever owned, most versatile 4-string ever owned. I regret selling it. Just didn't get how good it was, couldn't see past the spaceship appearance.

In the 80's, everything was futuristic; remember these?

My first instrument was a beat-to-heck cornet, a hand-me-down from my stepmother. All the lacquer was gone, and everybody else in section had shiny trumpets. I was very self-conscious about that horn. But I kicked booty and made second chair. Eventually I got a shiny new Yamaha with a rose brass bell. It's been all upside since then.

As far as things looking bad by design, I would probably never consider an EBMM Bongo or a pointy 90s axe, and I want my amplification to fade into the visual background (i.e. it needs to be black).

For those arguing looks shouldn't matter, my standard response is: this is show business, of course looks matter.

Oh man, reminds of every instrument I had as a teen. An alto saxophone, just tarnished enough to match the mothball stink from the case. Then there was my Gibson Ripper, looked as cool as bell bottoms in the early 90's.
Ironically, wish I still had both.

Some of the ugliest bass gear I owned also sounded pretty incredible. Check this out try pairing the original gray colored SUNN Coliseum bass head with the huge knobs on top of a vintage MusicMan 118RH cabinet not very attractive stuff but what a sound that 18" EV speaker sounded great with the SUNN!

Oh yeah, I remember those. Really uncomfortable to play - always an edge digging in someplace or other.

Any Fender bass in this Antigua finish. I think it's heinous. What were they thinking? On a side note, I've been to the actual island of Antigua and enjoyed that very much.
