Franken-bass. Love it.Nothing is too ugly to play, for me. I've been trying to put together a bass from parts which aesthetically should not go together. I had to put it on hold when I moved, but I hope to get started again, soon. There used to be all these gaudy pickguards and parts on Amazon that I should have ordered when I had the chance.
The Klaus Nomi signature model.I dig it, but I like the old Lace basses...View attachment 3773669
...I've got one...View attachment 3773670 ...and I hope to get one of these.
But I also like the St. Vincent guitar, so constructivist...View attachment 3773671reminds me of this guy...

That's hilarious. I don't care for the whole pointy black Gothic metal thing. Amplification: doesn't really matter what it looks like if the sound and reliability are there. Instruments: depends on what the show is about. Sometimes you have to be visual as well as audible to provide a convincing show. There is something appealing about playing a cartoonish bass for some shows, even if it just lifts your spirits to a point of trying not to laugh out loud in the middle of the set. Remember, in the studio nobody cares what you look like (usually). Onstage you're there to put on a show in order to entertain people. There aren't any boundaries as to what is acceptable in that arena. Have fun and make the audience happy.I'm with you, when you can have Plush...I maybe wouldn't use an old tuck n' roll Kustom cab. They always remind of that grade school friend you had whose Parent's bathroom had that cushioned toilet seat. The one that would have a crack in the cover and pinch you when you sat down.

All tube, far more bad ass, they look like the booths in a gin mill you'd see in an old Perry Mason episode.
Or like Little Tony's in NoHo on Lankershim. Love that place.View attachment 3774430
I actually like the looks of that!
It reminds me of The Sherman Room

I break like the wind...No need to be retentive about it. Just let them blossom in the wind.
So this would work for you?Any Pbass that has that extra pickup at the bridge is just appalling as hell, a bastardization of a true original classic...![]()
