this. The upward going horn on this thing (and the jazz bass like headed version they had a while back too) is so hideous, I would reject on looks alone. And I'm a pretty don't care what it looks like type of guy, but this is just beyond what I consider acceptable:

I don't understand Carvin/Kiesel's fascination with this awful looking horn thing, but this is the 2nd time they've brought it back.

The guy that owned this Hartke 410 painted the grill what I call "Hell Red". Even after dropping the price on down to $80 he couldn't get anyone to buy it. Apparently no one likes the grill of a Hartke cab painted this way. And I wouldn't use it looking like that in a live gig.
So I offered him $60, and he sold it to me for that. Instead of white lettering on top of black on the name badge like it was when it was stock, I did a reverse, black lettering, but on top of silver instead of white and repainted the grill. Also repainted the handles and corner protectors plus all screws using Rustoleum flat black. And now it looks like it's supposed to look. I think the silver backdrop for the lettering goes nicely with the aluminum cones.

That's hilarious. I don't care for the whole pointy black Gothic metal thing. Amplification: doesn't really matter what it looks like if the sound and reliability are there. Instruments: depends on what the show is about. Sometimes you have to be visual as well as audible to provide a convincing show. There is something appealing about playing a cartoonish bass for some shows, even if it just lifts your spirits to a point of trying not to laugh out loud in the middle of the set. Remember, in the studio nobody cares what you look like (usually). Onstage you're there to put on a show in order to entertain people. There aren't any boundaries as to what is acceptable in that arena. Have fun and make the audience happy.

All tube, far more bad ass, they look like the booths in a gin mill you'd see in an old Perry Mason episode.
