Geddy Lee Sansamp Pedal!

I can't imagine I won't like it. If it sounds anything at all like the multitude of demos Tim and others around here have put out, I'll be in Geddy heaven.

You can get a lot of tones from it and it's one of those pedals that sounds great with the rest of the band.
It became my backpocket drive that I take everywhere.
Just don't expect massive distortion from it.

Where did you find your deal? I keep seeing the same price everywhere.
Prymaxe.com. It's not in stock. You have to preorder. You can't buy it straight from the site like normal. The coupon code won't work. But if you email them, they may honor the black friday deal, and will respond to you with an invoice. I think their deal is "up to 26% off" or something like that. It didn't come out to 26% off, but it was still the best price I've seen anywhere. Cheaper than most of the ones I've seen used. Guitar Center (and by extension Musicians Friend) also have a 15% off black friday deal, and actually have it in stock. But you'd have to try to email or chat with them. I didn't try.

Got mine today. What a beast! It sounds fantastic! It's super flexible, but not at all in the ways I expected. At first, I tried just dialing it in like I have tried to dial in other overdrive or amp sim or similar pedals in the past, and it sounded like garbage. I was really disappointed. But based on what I read/heard elsewhere, I operated under the assumption that the controls are too unique and interactive for me to go that route. And I think that's accurate. You have to lay down some preconceptions with this one. Then I went to some of the sample settings in the manual, and was absolutely blown away. It definitely has that Geddy character to the drive that sounds fantastic when blended with the deep channel. My favorite setting so far has actually been "bi-amped overdrive" or something like that. It's the kind of thing I never would have thought to try . . . turning the low and high all of the way down and diming the mids . . . but it sounds soooooooo flippin' good. I have finally found the overdrive/distortion tone that I have been chasing for years in other pedals with limited success. It was all to try to get me to sound like Geddy anyway. Well, now I'm there. But it does a lot more than Geddy, and I'm loving it.

All of the T21 pedals & preamp that I have are far from one trick ponies. They can do what they’re supposed to do/named for, but also a whole lot more.

I should probably download the YYZ manual, assuming that the YYZ pedal and 2112 preamp are similar enough that the YYZ sample settings will work (even roughly) on the 2112.

There are only only 2 sample settings for the 2112 in the manual, Geddy’s standard and his HoF Roundabout performance with Yes.

They also state that they’re based for a full range system, like a pa or IEM, and that a limited range system (like my bass rig that I use it with, I’m sure) may require some tweaking.

I’m not using his exact settings, and I’ve played with it a bit, but some other suggestive samples would also be nice for places to start, even if I have to also tweak those a bit.

I’m very happy with all of my T21 gear.

I started using the YYZ in a different context than using it for top-end. I modded my Oxford for a harsher top-end, and to get it to fit into the track better, I used my YYZ's "clean" low side(now no longer clean bc a dirty Ox was being fed into it) and just enough gain on the overdrive side to make it audible(it goes muted if you shut down all the YYZ's gain) to make the bass track sound fat and thick to the Oxford's metallic grind and grungy mids.

@FaithNoMan ,
Is the Oxford and YYZ the complete signal chain? Any plugins, etc.?

Thanks,
John

No, it’s mic’d but my amp is set to a clean neutral tone. Well, as neutral as a Mesa Bass 400 can be(but definitely clean and not being pushed) I’ve used a few different amps though. Cab is an Eden 210T and it’s mic’d at the edge of the dust cap with an SM57 with an upgraded tranny for a little more bass than a stock one. There’s also a CLA2 with slight Comp on the bass track, but those are things I think of in a normal sense. No post eq or post editing besides that.

That being said, I will try and do some DI recordings of them soon.

Tech 21's Singapore dealer received the order 2 days ago! This part of the world often get latest release last.
I have a question, hope this has not been already addressed in the earlier conversation here. When the "TIGHT" button is activated, there is a drop in volume and seems to be of little difference in tone. Is this about right?

Well it is a drop of subby low mainly.
Since I use this pedal as a preamp I can't find it usable with the tight off, way too much subs
