Geddy Lee

Geddy used to be my god . i used (notice past tense) to be able to play every rush song on command - even that oblique little run at the end "la villa strangiato." I still dig him mightily but don't play any rush anymore.:D

Geddy is a stud. His voice has mellowed in recent years. I'm not a big fan of his 'new' style, the strumming of the strings with his index finger. Makes all his basslines (especially live!) even busier than they were to begin with.

When I was younger, I loved Rush. Heck, I still love Rush. But with age comes wisdom (I guess) and I often say to myself, "Self, did Geddy ever feel like he was over playing?" And then I answer, "Self, I don't think so. He couldn't play straight quarter notes to save his life!"

Geddy Lee is one of my main influences as a bassist. I have learned a LOT by listening to Geddy's bass lines in my earlier years. Rush was one band that made me want to expand as a bass player, and get away from the "RamonesSexPistols" type of corner that I was painted into when I was young.

I'm probably the black sheep of the Talk Bass family, but Geddy Lee was no influence for me at all. In fact, I had almost never listened to Rush until a couple of years ago :eek:

Geddy is sure a great player, but for the reasons I explained I can't consider him as a "god". In my musical course, this place is for Chris Squire.

Geddy Lee is one of the best bassist that has ever lived! He just doesn't stop to impress me. Not only he's a God of a bass player, but also he's a great musician.

I discovered Rush a little before I started playing bass (around 2 years ago). He definitely struck a chord with me. His tone, his beautiful and fascinating bass lines, his playing style, his speed, his craftsmanship, etc. He makes it sound like it's so easy. Plus, anyone who can play those lines and sing at the same time deserves a standing-O from my part.

My favourite bass player is John Entwistle, but Geddy Lee is not far behind. He truly is a bass God.

If Geddy Lee's so good why wasn't he included in Gov't Mule's "the deep end"?;)

Seriously, I've been playing bass since '73 and was around for Rush's beginnings. Honestly, I've never liked Rush one bit, but mostly due to Geddy's vocals--just my personal taste. However, many here really like Geddy as a bassist and i'm curious why? I just borrowed a co-workers "Vapor Trails" cd and the bass playing is fine, but IMHO nothing exceptional as far as tone, technique, style etc.

What am I missing as far as Geddy the Bassist?

Been a fan of Roscoe's for a couple of years now and about a year ago I had the pleasure of meeting him and chatting for a few minutes backstage at Antone's ....the man is fantastic on a 4 or 5 string bass...listened to him play with Omar and the Howlers for and hour and a half and not one time did he lose the groove or so much as play a wrong note.Yes...Geddy Lee is a great bass player and a damn good vocalist....and somewhat of an influence but my heart is really colored blue and thats what I love to play......just my 2 cents worth.

The reason is voice sounds the way it does (if i'm not mistaken) is because in the begiining, they had CRAP PA stuff, and he had to scream like crazy to be heard. after they got some good stuff, his voice still had that "WHINE" to it. i love it though. i remember listening to rush a LONG tim ago, and asking my dad "WHO is the BASS PLAYER? HE'S INSANE!" and he said "Geddy, he's the singer to" i then passed out from lack of blood to my head. He's amazing. I am part of the to army! LONG LIVE GEDDY!
