What i'm really after is what as a bassist do folks like about Geddy Lee--and maybe this is difficult to quantify--but I was hoping to get at things that make him unique e.g. tone, keys, riffs, techniques etc. that maybe I've just not picked up on.

I like Geddy.
I used to listen to them 20 years ago, and took a long break. Well I happened to hear some clips of their latest on-line and just had to go and buy it. It's a great record, and reminds me of all the things I used to like about them when I was a teenager. Maybe I have grown out of my jazz snobbery a bit.


I recommend Neil Peart's new book, "Ghost Rider". You feel like you know him when you read it, and the album lyrics make a lot more sense.

one thing about the G man; to sing those lyrics and play those cazy basslines is a feat not many bassists can pull off. To create meaningful musical basslines while singing makes it even more incredible.

It's like playing a Bach 2 part invention but singing one part and playing the other on the bass...

Geddy was my first major bass influence and is still one of my biggest. He is IMHO the most creative and talented rock player ever.

Geddys a great player, plays very complex intricate lines without over playing on the songs. How can ya not like or respect the mans abilities.

I love RUSH. I love Geddy and Neil and Alex. Neil Peart was the reason I bought my drumset 6 years ago. And Geddy is the reason I bought a bass 4 years ago. Man, I could listen to Rush on end for days. I try to promote them every way I can. There is no doubt that Neil Peart is Godly when it come to drums, no one is more talented. And, obviously, Geddy is either loved or hated.

Well I love his music, and all the countless works of art that he gave us, so we can just lay back and listen to Rush.

Well, my excuse for never listening to Rush is that I am only 18, and I never listened to music when I was little. But tonight is the first time I really listened to Rush exensively, and Geddy Lee is now one of my favourites. You guys probably don't care, , but I found another influence!

Geddy's bass playing was the most significant contributor to my decision to become a bassist.

He is a legendary rock bassist, and his vocal and keyboard abilities ... well, let's just say that he redefines being a valuable bandmember.

Just make sure you listen to Rush from all periods. Then decide what you do and don't like. I used to bash 80's synth-Rush, but when I actually sat down and listened to it, I loved it.
