well, i did a brief search before and noticed that people said the geddy sounded quite nasal and had a sortof trebly tone...is it saveable, would it be good for stuff like Rnb, Hip Hop and Soul, so get a real phat tone?

It can do anything a 1970s Fender Jazz can do. Getting that kind of tone depends way more on your technique and your amp.

Installing a pre makes a world of difference...in my case an Audere JZ3. I may swap pickups out if I find a pair for the right price to get a more modern tone.

BTW a jazz bass can sound good for everything if you set it up correctly.
Wanna' hear something funny? I put a Z3 in mine and took it back out. I just dug its native tone that much. Admittedly, I have DiMarzio J's in it, but as I recall, they sound pretty much like the stock p'ups, just no hum. I love the Z3, but this is one bass that, IMHO, just didn't need any help.soniq said:

Just buy the bass. Its a good cheap jazz and with it get a Sadowsky pre/DI stompbox. Thats got all the "phat" you'll ever need

And "nasaly" it ain't. At least not to my ears.

It's an onomonopoetic slang reference to the flapping, swishing, canvas-on-canvas noise of someone walking with way-oversized pants on, with the waistline of the pants positioned around or below the person's buttocks, and the legs of the pants bunched up around their shoes.73jbass said:

what's more interesting, geddy seems to have the same tone no matter what bass he's playing. (i like his tone BTW)
