"Don't mess with Texas" is a kind of unofficial Texas slogan. The point is that "Hook 'em Horns" has been around a lot longer that Gene has been doing "devil horns." Gene is probably not aware of that.

Yeah. Just found that out from my GF. I was mentioning this and she immediately said:"Yeah! The hook em' horns. You never heard of the hook em' horns?"

I must have had my usual blank look. She just rolled her eyes (I get that a lot btw) and smiled her "oh you!" smile (I get that a lot too) before she went back to whatever it was she was doing.

Anybody remember this video. Look, I'm not jealous of Gene's success but for the love of God, If Carol Kaye showed me this bass line I'd be able to play it within the first two tries. It just shows you how so many of these guys made it without even knowing some basics on their instrument. Things that a lot of us take for granted musically just don't resonate with guys like him.
