Gene Simmons New Cort Axe Bass???

I have said this a million times when it comes to Gene, I still have a day job....................................... I'd trade places anyday. If you really listen to his playing I think you will find he is quite good.

I understand the man isnt Wooten or Claypool, but geez, he playd rhythmic, catchy walkin basslines.....something that catches your ear...isnt that what music is about?? By the way, have you even listened to their new album?? Gene plays the best on the entire thing.

I find it hard to believe you're a Kiss fan.

I am a HUGE Kiss fan.

And I haven't bashed him entirely. His signature bass SUCKS.

His playing is elementary, but I suppose that can be a good thing in the right place and at the right time.

Him, as a person, I think he's a jackass.

Well, he certainly doesn't understand that an actual musician prepared to sink money into a $5000 instrument might want to know what materials were used in the construction of it beyond that they came from the "far east." Certainly if I was going to sink $5000 into a bass that'd be among my first questions, and Simmons' answer would be unacceptable. I don't care if he has a nice story about violins. In other words, it's worse than musical illiteracy, it's bad salesmanship, and salesmanship is something I thought Gene cared about at least as much as music.

Look I may never have a gold record attached to my name, but I have had lots of salespeople peddle BS to me, and Gene's interview tripped my BS-meter like you wouldn't believe. So yeah, go ahead, buy a $5000 Cort made from Gene's personal stock of magical Strad-grade "far-east" wood if you want, but I'm not getting taken in by it.

Your not Peter Griffin are you :D? I cant see why its worth sticking up for the semi talented over-weight quite old man that is Gene Simmons....oh I went there :).

One thing wasnt clear to me, is is 5K for the axe, and then an extra 5K to meet him?

First off I couldn't stand to watch that whole video just wondering if his hands ever changed positions? I saw 1:46 and didn't see it move. I also love how he talks up the woods and thei resonance and blah blah...then throws EMGs in it. Not that I have anything at all against EMGs but they're hardly a transparent pickup. EMGs have a voice of their own that they speak heavily.

That's far too impractical to work, Plus I have it taped in HD on DVR, and watched the part you speak of, and he was definitely playing live...besides, that was taped earlier in the afternoon, so it wasnt actually LIVE...it would have done him no good to play to a backing track on a pre taped segment. Do you people really see him as being THAT incapable of playing bass?? So what if his playing isnt the most complicated slapping and popping, call his playing elementary if you want, but so is Cliff Williams, and he seems to get plenty of praise as being a "Great" bassist as one poster put it months ago.

I agree about Cort being a horrible brand and crap. See, his strategy is to get it made as cheaply as
possible with the most basic woods because he knows that as a result of using EMG pickups, the wood type will never matter. See, he isnt as stupid as you think:-)

You people are nothing short of nauseating. :scowl:

You know, for $5000 I'd rather get a Wal, Alembic, custom shop BC Rich, Sadowsky, Fodera, Ritter, etc.

Seriously, that bass never looked like 5 grand. I'd say 1000 at least. And not knowing what goes into a $5000 instrument is poor salesmanship (like DanGouge said). This is a Cort. The most I have seen Corts go for are around the 1000 to 1200 dollar mark (and if they do go up higher (with other models), please enlighten me).

Ok, so his bass riffs are catchy. Still doesn't justify the price.

So then why does he go on takling about how great the woods are and their resonance as if the wood makes a difference??? And I hardly think 5000 dollars is as cheap of a bass he could make...
