Gene Simmons New Cort Axe Bass???

Your Gene Simmons Homerism is beyond nauseating. It's now just comical. If you spent the same amount of time and energy practicing as you do defending Gene here you would probably be a better player then him not that it would be much of an accomplishment.
You know, I understand $5000 is absolutely outrageous, and I know I always stick up for Gene, but for good reason: you people just LOVE to kick the guy into the dirt, don't you?? ANY opportunity you get, you pounce.
Obviously, you didn't see the part where he was discussing the wood used in Stradivarius Violins, and the resonance they had. So because he didn't state the SPECIFIC SPECIES OF WOOD he's using, he's automatically musically illiterate, and has NO idea what he's talking about??
The neck is hard maple, the body is mahogany, obviously from overseas, and the fingerboard is Indian Rosewood.
Oh and by the way, if you think all Gene does is play open 1/4 notes then you definitely HAVE NOT listened to the majority of KISS's music, because the man definitely does not pound out 1/4th notes.
So remind me again, when is YOUR new record coming out and going to Number 1??

I don't know everyone is getting so crazy over the price. It's terribly expensive and over priced, yes, but no one is going to buy it because of the tone. People will buy this as a novelty item, and frankly if you're spending 5k on a novelty bass, you're not buying it for the wood and you're certainly not hurting for cash.
Is it a rip-off? Yes. But hard working people who are scraping to get buy aren't going to be buying it, the people who do will have that kind of disposable income. Working stiffs like you and me know that our money is better spent on something else. If people want to buy a 5k axe bass, let them buy it. Gene is putting a gun to anyone's head. Is an Alembic really worth 3-4 grand? Does it cost $1500 to make a Fender in the USA? The overhead to produce any bass is not any crazy amount (relative to the price). People charge what they do because they can, it's econ 101. If no one buys it, that is the company's problem.
I learned my lesson buying a Punisher bass when I was 18, I still love the bass but realistically I could have sunk my money into something better or more valuable. This is my fault, not Gene Simmons' fault.

It was a GUITAR, not a 6 string bass.
I called Kramer to be sure it was a legit Gene Simmons AX. It was. They said the factory burned before they finished the run, and Rick Nielson of Cheap Trick had the only other one they knew the location of.I still have the original DiMarzo pup that it came with in a Japanese Super strat from the same time period, but I didn't hang onto the AX very long. The only way to play it was standing, and it weighed way too much to do that for long.. plus the aluminum neck dove like crazy.

Keep the focus on the instrument, guys- save the talk about Gene's merits as a player can be saved for the Bassists forum.
Gene Simmons has never been concerned about being a good musician as he has with selling lots of stuff. I think he could care less if anyone took him seriously as a musician.
I remember Chuck Wright saying that he was playing a few songs on an album Gene was producing. Gene also played a few tracks, which weren't very good and Chuck didn't like how it didn't spell out who was playing which track. Gene basically replied that nobody gives a crap and that was that.
In regards to EMG pickups, they're not very picky about which woods and construction you use. They're going to sound like EMGs and there isn't much you can do to get them not to sound like EMGs. By themselves, you might hear differences in construction, but as long as the pickups are in the relatively same position, it would be very tough to tell the difference.
How come a Spector with them sounds nothing like a Fender with the same ones installed?
Exactly. Nobody makes you buy anything.
Gene Simmons could sell his dirty socks on Ebay for a million dollars...doesn't say anything about the socks...just that a fool and his money are soon parted.

I think the bass is way over priced, but if I had the 5K I would be in ! Even though I am logged in as godothunder there are many other bassists I admire. The GOT thing I used to build myself up for gigs when I was young, I was very shy......................not so much anymore but the moniker carried over to the internet. My name is Scott but many call me Got lol. Anyhow I think if Gene had priced this at 2,500 and included tickets to the show he might be on to something. Just cause it is made by Cort doesn't mean it is a POS, their Billy Cox bass was pretty cool.
Again, check the pickup positioning. I don't have a ruler handy, but most Spectors have the P pickups reversed from Fender and usually a little closer to the bridge than a Fender. I'm no Spector expert, but I believe the J pickup is usually 70's spaced, which varies among Fenders depending on model.
I don't think anyone that's participated in this thread has played one. I could be wrong about that. But since that is my belief and unless you played one then nobody should be bashing the quality, playability, and tone of the instrument. For all any of us know it could actually sound great and play great too. I'm not saying it does and from what I know of Cort, I'm highly doubting it does, but don't pass judgement on something you haven't played.
