Gene Simmons New Cort Axe Bass???

I don't think anyone that's participated in this thread has played one. I could be wrong about that. But since that is my belief and unless you played one then nobody should be bashing the quality, playability, and tone of the instrument. For all any of us know it could actually sound great and play great too. I'm not saying it does and from what I know of Cort, I'm highly doubting it does, but don't pass judgement on something you haven't played.

You do know that besides Cort, Cor-Tek makes the much loved G&L Tribute, plus ESP, Ibanez, Parkwood, and Schecter brand basses right?

They are more than able to make a decent bass.

They made my ATK's and my SRX, all of which are great. Not just for the money, but great basses.

but did any of those cost 5,000 dollars! no, they range from 300-800 and that includes the 80%(or so) mark up.

It's one thing to sell a kiss lunchbox for 20 bucks because thats a reasonable price, but in comparison would you pay 200 dollars for a plain jane right of the assembly line lunch box.

To me that's an Immoral mark up, regardlless of his musicianship skills, he deserves the critiscism he's receiving.

In case you dont know: Italian wood. Moisture and warmth????? What the hell is i talking about???? The Stradivarious violins where made during "the little ice age" . One piece of wood on a necktrough? No glue? The rest of the ******** he says talks for itself.

Can anyone imagine e.g Steve Harris do such a thing to his fans?

In regards to EMG pickups, they're not very picky about which woods and construction you use. They're going to sound like EMGs and there isn't much you can do to get them not to sound like EMGs. By themselves, you might hear differences in construction, but as long as the pickups are in the relatively same position, it would be very tough to tell the difference.

I've put EMGs in quite a few P basses and they don't all sound the same. Each bass still retains it's individual personality. Same with the J basses I've put them in.

I agree the price is crazy. I was just getting tired of seeing the "Cort is bad" comments when Cor-tek can do a good job as far as craftsmanship goes.

If that bass was worth 5G, do you think Gene would sell it for that? No. He would want at least 20G for it, if he sold it at all. He just wants your money. He doesn't need your money but he is coming up with crap night and day to find a way to get in your pockets. And plenty of people will line up like cattle to the slaughter to give it to him. It amazes me that there actually are people who have made enough money to be able to afford something like this, but at the same time they are stupid enough to spend it on something like this.

And yes, unless you buy this to auction off for orphans, or to buy a home for a Katrina victim(or hell give the money to the people who actually made the thing), I think you are as big of a greedy pig as Simmons, but more of a loser.

And as someone said earlier Paul Stanley is no better, if not worse. Paul actually seems like a bigger jerk than anyone in the band.

I am a huge KISS fan and Gene's playing is a huge influence on my own playing. They were the first concert I ever went to when I was 7 (believe it or not, the Destroyer tour). That being said, Gene is quite full of crap. That interview was quite laughable. Like a previous poster said, he's looking to sell this to non-musicians. I definitely feel like some snake oil is being shilled here.

By the way, several people would be surprised I'm sure to discover that several awesome "USA made" instruments are mostly built by Cort.

Don't forget that Paul Stanley is just as much a sell out, just not as open about it. Paul switched his signature guitar to Silvertone a few years back, I mean SILVERTONE! C'mon! He's gone Ibanez-Washburn-Silvertone-Washburn again in the past 12 years. And on top of that at the Paul art show meet and greet, you have to buy one of his $1500 (minimum, non original) paintings in order to meet him, otherwise, you can just look at the fancy pictures he makes.

If you were Wentworth gallery and put up the $$ for the art shows, would you want people showing up wanting Paul to sign Animalize? Let's be fair now.

I can clearly discern the nuances of my basses fitted with EMGs. They all sound different.
