Genz Benz Neo Pak 3.5

Nice too see you're liking the head Michael.

The lights are bright, but I like them. When I played outside last weekend around mid-afternoon, I was still able to see what was on and what wasn't (I was using my 1200, but the lights are the same). However, I was running an exterrnal compressor that I had to keep covering with one hand to tell if the light was on or not. It made me really appreciate the lights on the GB heads.

Eub- Definitely enjoying it, thanks!

Are you getting the hang of the preamp volume control- how to set it and the gain control for differing amounts of tubeyness? It seems pretty simple from the tweaking I've done so far..

I'm not too worried about the lights.

Yeah, I like the channel volume, even on the Neo-Pak which only has 1 channel. On the 1200, it's extremely useful, and very necessary. I definitely like how it allows you to push the tube to get some extra warmth, or lay back a little and have a more refined sound.

And like you, I like the full sized look versus all the micro stuff out there. It looks better when it's setup, and it's much easier to find the knob you're looking for.

Did you get the carry bag as well? The bag is one of my favorite things about the whole setup.

I'm really enjoying the NeoPak 3.5 too. Depending on which bass (active/passive) I am using the settings need to be tweaked a bit. I'm still playing around with the tube preamp and eq settings to get the sound I like.

It'd be neat on the next generation of Genz-Benz amps to have a rotary dimmer control for the front panel lights.. or possibly, when the mute is engaged, to turn all lights out except for the power on light and the standby light. Just a thought.

I love the Neo-Pak just the way it is. I just spent a half hour playing through it and my Bag S15-D.. simply wonderful!

It was supposed to come with my Neo-Pak, but did not. I got one from Musician's Friend for $29. It arrived yesterday. The carry bag is made very well- I was impressed. Good padding around the head, and the interior of the bag is waterproof! Nice sized zipper pocket on the front, should be enough to store a couple of short Speakon cables and the AC cord.

Agedhorse and Hasbeen-

My hat is off to you guys at G-B. That little amp is a quality piece of engineering. It's also built well and has that great look and feel thing going on..

I've played through a lot of different amp pieces- heads as well as pre/power racks- but this head nails the tones I want. It's light and compact too. It's simply brilliant.

Same here, Michael. They are really doing a fine job with the GBE and Neox line. As much as I love my 1200, if I could only have one head, it would be the Neo-Pak. The big reason for this is most of the gigs I do don't require that much power, and the Neo-Pak is so easy to load in and out. However, I definitely prefer the 1200's tone, mostly because I usually blend the tube and SS channels to get my sound.

you were supposed to get a bag at no-charge but didn't? We do usually charge for the bags but have done some promotions with them at no-charge.

Since you'be already bought one, can I help you out with a high-end speaker or instrument cable? You could have your choice of Monster or Planet Waves....instrument or speaker.

If you want speaker, let me know what length and if a Monster brand, let me know if Speakon or 1/4".

Or....a set of strings:
DR
GHS
D'Addario
Elixir
Markley
These are the brands I have...just let me know gauge, series....how many strings.

PM all the details including all shipping info.

Wow, righteous customer support!
No doubt! Its the reason I snagged a GBE600 on the MF closeout, and I haven't ever looked back. I never would have guessed I'd like the tone as much as I do - but man, the headroom of this GBE600 is IMPRESSIVE for its wattage rating/class. After getting this amp, I've had to really watch my peaks and valleys of my touch, as I wasn't used to having such power in the headroom at my disposal.

I'm definitely sold on Genz Benz, and for the first time in forever, my mind's eye/ear isn't wandering towards other 'what if' amps one bit. :bassist:

I should note that on that outside gig I mentioned, I had my 1200 in a 3 space SKB, pushing it at 2.66 ohms fairly hard, in broad daylight, sun beaming down on the rig. Not only were the lights bright enough to see, but better yet the head didn't over heat. No issues whatsoever, and I couldn't even hear any fan noise from the front side of the rig. How many heads can do that?

I have played a SWR Super Redhead for years with an additional 1-15" cabinet. It seemed as though my system just didn't have enough gas. I went to Guitar Center in Raleigh this past Friday, they had a GBE600 with a GB 410T-XB2 cabinet. I was there for two hours playing with the dual preamps and dialing in the sound. I was floored by how loud and clean this amp and cab sounded. I bought it and carried it home where I spent a couple more hours just checking out all the different tone shapes. I am not even sure if I need to use my 15" cabinet, the 410 cab get some really awesome low frequencies. This amp blows my SWR rig away, this coming from a diehard SWR man. I am completely sold on GB.

My amp didn't come with any cables or fancy gig bag, I had to buy a 2 rack space gig bag. :crying: I need to pick up a 3ft Speakon cable, I am afraid I might blow the 1/4" speaker cable out of it's connector when I start jamming.

Be advised that Genz Benz recommends AGAINST using a rack bag for the GBE heads. The fan on the side of the head pulls air in, and the fabric on a rack bag will suction to the fan and not allow air flow. You should take it back and get a rack case.

My bad, it is not just a soft gig bag, it is a Kaces 2 space rack bag. inside the bag there is a full length plastic box insert. The best way to describe it would be if you took an SKB rack case and covered it with cordura.

Does it apply to specific stores ? I've ordered a Neo-Pak thru an official french dealer and got no bag... What can I do ?

I can't wait to play that head with my band...
