Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 Appreciation Thread

We don't have the luxury of contracts much less with riders. If we pulled a stunt like that we'd be ditched permanently. This ain't the big time. It sounds like you think all your customers are major acts.

After my Shuttle shut down in protect mode twice I started metering the AC prior to plugging in and the last two times the Shuttle shut down the AC had metered fine. There doesn't seem to be a way to predict if the AC will fluctuate out of the amp's tolerance.

Just curious, did you ever serve time playing bass in "bar" bands?

This is interesting to me as I am a college bar player myself. If you test it and it meters fine, could it change once you apply a huge loud to it post metering? How often is this problem for others? I play some divish bars around Denver-Boulder and never had a problem, though this maybe why my SVT-7 kept pooping out on me.

For example: meter it with no load, but while playing you got 2 guitar amps, the 9.0, a PA, mixer. several FX strings....

Again, not at all trying to be snarky here, I'm NOT an electrical engineer and I am honestly curious if a good metered source can be insufficient once a bands worth of current is pulled.

Perhaps fine un-loaded can be far from fine loaded? Please, correct me experts.

Also, at rehearsals I run my bands PA, bass rig and my FX string off one Power outlet of a house +100 years old. The SVT would poop in this configuration, but the Shuttle does not.

The SVT is the only amp that ever went protect on me with this config, is it still safe to run my GB 9.0 in the same manor or should I adjust something?

I don't have a power meter.

Please tell us how it sounds with the Berg. I'm curious in Berg vs. GB cabs.

Yea sure. I know how how the 6.0 sounded with the BergAE410.
When I bought my Bergie at ATL Bass Gallery, I tried the 410 with the GB 6.0 and the EBS 350 at the store. From a tone perspective, the EBS was much better than the 6.0.
The Genz sounded two dimensional and cardboard-like. Definitely not as deep and rich as the EBS. Sterile would be a good word. I used to owned a 6.0 and got better results when hooking it up to my Bag End cab which warmed it up and also my HT112 Bergie cabs.
I've been shopping for a second head and almost bought the EBS HD350 for a great price. However, at $659 out the door, I just had to try the 9.0 after everyone said that it's much fatter, punchier and louder than the 6.0.

"apply a huge loud"

I like that... ;)

With a load applied is where the rubber meets the road, but I suppose the alternative might be to leave the meter plugged in stare at it all night to see if it drops too low and then try to stop playing or turn down just before the amp goes into protect mode...oops, same result...no bass. ;)

I play dive bars when ever i can.. Its fun....
I never had an issue with my shuttle.. but did with a friends GK1001 when i sat in and once again when i was in europe two weeks ago with a GK1001.. But never the shuttle.. my stuff was late so i used the GK1001 RB and each shut down for about 4 seconds .. while gigging... seemed like an eternity before it reset and came back on.. but never an issue with the shuttle..

I've been reading the posts and it seems a bit convoluted to me. It seems that some think GB should be responsible for the inferior wiring and power supplied by some of these dives that you are playing by your own description and choice. Just do a little extra work and replace the venue. That's right get a decent gig to replace the dives, just sayin'. If my circuit tester doesn't read OK we're not plugging anything in, it's AMF until they get it fixed.
:hiding:

Nobody said anything of the sort so that's BS. Like I said, everything metered fine before plugging in.

The places I've had a problem are not dives. In fact the more divey places were no problem.

How have other heads reacted with the same power situation? Maybe meter while everyone else is sound checking if possible? Maybe I should review my posts a bit better as not to mix up loud and load:scowl:.

Hopefully you dont have a lemon, seems the GB protect kicks in after the protect on the SVT 7 (my experience) and the GK1001(svtb15's experience). If another protected head makes it through the gig fine then maybe you have a problem with your 9.0 that needs service. At least Genz has great service.

It's less than a year old.

I had an Eden WT550 head for one week before it went bad, or the flaw in it was exploited enough for the amp to stop working. Must have been a lemon or something. They sent me a new one as soon as I gave the tracking on the broken one.

It's possible it's always had a little something wrong with it, you wont know until GB checks it out and gives it a clean bill of health. If that happens, maybe the 9.0 just isn't the head for those gigs...which would be sad and upsetting. Or maybe the protect circuit just need a minor adjustment and you'll be thumping hard again.

I hope it works out for you.

My then few months old WT-400 crapped out on a gig due to cracked solder joints on the ribbon cable connecting the preamp and power amp boards. It took me about 15 minutes to find the problem and fix it once I got it home, including waiting for the soldering iron to heat up.

I'll admit that we spend a lot of time at halls/venues where bands do line checks and such. We do our best to build pro gear.

I also recognize that our gear isn't for everyone for every application. I wish we could accomplish that...but, we can't.

So, with that being said, I have no problem in giving you a refund. I'll take the hit. In other words, I'll refund to you what you paid the dealer if you aren't happy with your amp or, if we can't make you happy. I'll even refund the money before we receive the amp.

In the end, we don't have control over how you'll like our product but, we can affect how we'll stand behind it.

Please PM me as to how you'd like to resolve this.

Let it never be said that Genz Benz customer service isn't top notch. You guys are definitely doing things right, even if some customers find reasons to think otherwise. Keep it up!

I already had the Uber 410 (4ohm),and look what arrived today,a Shuttle 9 :bassist:
In a strange kinda twist my Sunn 1200s failed on the weekend,so what an excuse to get one of the these, and in the short time I had to try it out I know I made the right choice.Love it ! Cant wait to gig it :hyper: :hyper:
