Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 Appreciation Thread

Let's double-check the mute switch thing... do you have the amp hooled up to a speaker or are you using the tuner out into a DI or other recording type device? Are you by any chance usin the effects return or aux in as an input from an external pedal preamp? The mute switch will not mute the output under these conditions.

If you are using the instrument input on the front and the speaker out into a cabinet (or headphone out into cans), the mute switch should work as expected. If not, give Jeff a call Tuesday morning at the factory (800)959-1809 and he will get this resolved for you. No worries.

Regarding the overdrive question, the amount of overdrive available depends on the output level of your bass as well as the position of the input gain ciontrol. You should hear mild overdrive before the input O/L LED flashes as this indicates that you are entering more agressive overdrive territory. Some low output level basses may not have sufficient level to drive the input this hard. If this is the tone you are looking for and your bass has a low output level, you will need a clean boost pedal or a preamp such as fdeck's. What kind of bass are you playing and what is the pick-up/electronics package installed?

Amp is hooked up to a speaker cabinet via a double-ended speakon cable to the speaker output.

I called and left a message today at the 980 # but forgot about it being a holiday. However I did leave a message. I'll call tomorrow though at the above number.

I've tried it with my Sadowsky Will Lee, my Fender Geddy Lee and P bass, and I get the same results every time. I set the WL with the tones flat since that's how I generally play it.

Did you have the bass's volume all the way up? Where was the gain set on the preamp of the Shuttle?

Then your bass signal is fairly low, and a preamp will help IF youare looking for an overdriven tone. If you are looking for more of a clean tone, you should be good as is.

Could it be the tube?

If you have tried three Basses I would find it unusuall for all three to have low outputs but who knows.

With My Jazz Bass, all my P Basses, and my Stingray the red light starts coming on if I go past halway with the input gain and that is with the channel volume at noon. Now overdrive does not kick it until somewhere past that and the 9.0 does not have a lot of distortion on tap IMO but I hate distortion so......

The Streamliner will get some sho nuff balls out overdrive.

I do prefer the overdriven tone of the Shuttle though unless I re EQ the Streamliner for dirty tones.

Well that's what I'm wondering since the red light isn't lighting up on mine. Seems odd that all three basses (The P bass has DiMarzios in it) aren't getting it. Not that I want a lot of distortion, but I want the amp to be working correctly.

Please report the mute malfunction solution in case it ever happens to another proud 9.0 owner, I think I am half way through my warranty.

I found some great new overdrive tones in my 9.0 last night during a fun jam with some friends. 99% of the time in rehearsal, personal practice or on stage I have the GB 9.0 set for clean, lightly EQ'd funk tone. My friends wanted to play some more rockn than jazzy funk jams. Often inspired by my gear and tone I get I turned up the gain, downed the master and thumped some exhilarating over driven rhythms.

Thanks Genz Benz for this monster tone machine!!!

Indeed the Shuttle 9.0 is so versatile, real nice bit of engineering there.

I would like to hear/feel the difference between the 9.0 and Shuttle 9.2. I doubt many have one yet.

I like my 9.0 so much I think I'm going to to release my Stremliner 900 and get another 9.0. The 9.0 just works for me the best. Nothing wrong with the liner as it's a fantastic sounding amp from top to bottom but I think I have grown over time to prefer the 9.0.
