Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 Appreciation Thread

i would love to be able to find a pair of Uber 210s... For club gigs i could use one or two.. Just cant find them.. And if ya do they are $$$$$$$$$....
Im not into the Bergantino 210s .. The 212 looks cool.. as does teh Mesa 212.. But teh Mesa 210s fart out.. Just not on my gigs but others that i know too.. The Uber 210s were just Killer cabs!!!! So now what do we do? ughhhhhhh

The 163x is so cheap.. I got my first one on the 1980s and its still great.. i could never get a pedal Comp to do what i wanted. EVER..
I use it almost all the time... goes in the gig bag pocket or the others are rack mounted.
I love those DBX compressors. I may pick up a 163x to schlep around I need a portable compressor and I'm not really into comp pedals. This particular 160A was rescued from CL and then got some much needed love. It got a new power supply, caps, opamps, and some OEP transformers. The increase in headroom is what I was after to cut down on the noise using the Multiverb III and of coarse the compression.

I play so aggressively the 160a is a God send.

The 163X was one of the only successful stand alone "one knob" compressors ever made. Input gain and make-up gain tracked as the fader position was increased, with a fixed threshold easy over comp. Possibly, the ratio or the threshold also changed along with the slider motion but it's been too long for me to remember.

I love the 163x.... I have an La2a Clone at home in my studio setup... and an A-Design BAC500 api500 series too.. But they are too much $$$$$ to bring out on gigs....
The 163x is great for fast changes on the fly with one slider..
All i have to do is set the makeup gain so when the slider is far left , the output VOL is the same as when it is full Right..
I hit about 2 lights on it and its great.. .

Correct, once you set the raw makeup gain, the input gain and tracking makeup gain track with the slider making the volume stay about the same as the slider is moved.

Hey Kirk and Red: GREAT rigs!!!!
Thanx bucephylus!

FWIW I picked up a 163x a few weeks ago for use on DI type gigs and such, works realy well. Also been using it at church straight out of wireless and into the house rig. Oddly enough the Stingray Classic is so hot even when plugged straight in the 163x must use the line level input jack to keep from overdriving it.

Awesome. I've also been eyeballing one of those for my rack.

Yup, I gigged a SR5 very happily for about 10 years. Great bass; output definitely on the hot side of things.

So, I noticed my Shuttle 9.0 started sounding a bit hissy yesterday at rehearsal even with everything set flat. Tube issue maybe? If so any suggestions on a good replacement tube? If not, what does the class think the problem may be?
Thanks

Does the his change if you tap on the chassis? Does it change with the position of the input gain control or mostly with the input volume control?

Might somebody have turned your tweeter all the way up (on a cabinet with a tweeter and level control)?

The Shuttle is quite tolerant of a wide range of tube parameters, foregiving in performance. The only tubes that don't work as well (in general) are the 12AX7LPS because some important parameters are pretty wide.

There is no reason to spend a couple hundred on a tube, there are plenty of excellent tubes available for way less. The Shuttles are not "tube finicky", the design is intentionally tolerant of a wide range of tube parameters and will deliver acceptable tone with many tubes.

Good to know. So those I linked will work? No fit problems? I don't know anything tubes. Sorry for the stoopid questions
