Off the top of my head, the preamp begins to overdrive around 100mV at full gain in the high gain range.

If I had one dollar for every 100 I have put into music gear over the last 35 years I could use it to pay for this amp.

I'm kinda desperate. Didn't want to go back to dragging around separate pwr amp and rack gear, kinda spoiled to the itty bitty amps but really want to play my Cirrus in this new band and the LMII just doesn't give me the tone I am looking for with it. Hope this max12 does.

Got my Shuttle Max 12.0 3 days ago and was able to compare it to my GK MB2-500. It's a great amp, I'm excited and very satisfied with my purchase. Props to Greg at Rocket Music, he was awesome to deal with! I will be buying more stuff from him because of the great experience.

Greg is awesome. Rocket Music is the store that I wish was here in KC. Of course, my wallet would then be in serious trouble.

Congrats on the Max - how does it compare to the MB2?

So far, I like using both pre's together but the FET channel is surprisingly good. Regarding the comparison to the GK MB2-500 (which I think sounds GREAT with the Genz cabs), here is what I posted the other day:

Ok, brief intermission from A/B'ing the MB2-500 and the Shuttle Max 12.0. I'm still playing through these and it will go through the weekend with multiple basses and cab configs and possible a buddy or two to give some feedback as well. So far...not much of a comparison through a Genz NeoX 212T and using my F-Bass BN5. The Shuttle Max is definitely warmer even when using just the FET channel. It's not just that though, it seems more present and the notes have more definition, articulation, etc. By the way, the MB2-500 sounds really great through this cab but then you plug in the Shuttle Max it sounds better overall... The GK is brighter to my ears (even when cranking the bass knob a little more) and the Shuttle Max at similar settings sounds clearer than the GK does. Again though, my testing will go through the weekend using both passive and active basses with smaller and larger cab configs. Both amps are freakin' loud and the lower notes of the 5 are great on both amps although better on the Shuttle IMO. You can dial in some GK with the Genz but can't get the Genz with the GK..if that makes any sense. If I keep the GK it will be because of the size but definitely won't miss any of the tone because it's in the Shuttle already. Hope that helps. Oh, and that isn't even really commenting on the tube side yet.....:bassist:

Interesting.
One of the reasons I ordered this amp was because my active Cirrus (that I REALLY like to play) sounds like crap with my LMII. But my pbass sounds like heaven with it. I NEED warm tubey type of sound with the Cirrus but not so much with the pbass.
Oh, well, we will see.

when you get the head, and you're trying to dial in the Cirrus, PM me.....I'll give you some suggested settings.

I did solve some of my Cirrus tone problems with the LMII by adding a 15LF cab and by running a sansamp RBI IN FRONT of the amp with the xlr output (seemed quieter). I'm hoping that the Max12 will allow me to do away with HAVING to run an RBI in front.
I will say this though, that the max12 is going to have to really put out on the PWR section to keep up with the LMII. I played last night with 2 guitarists running Marshall stacks and the LMII not only stayed with them but had PLENTY more. I sure hope the Max12 will as well, although the shuttle6 PWR output comparisons to LMII (that are posted) are not as promising as I have hoped...

I wound up using 3 of my aggy gs112s instead of all 4 yesterday.. 4 stacked line array style just looks silly so i did 3 and it was plenty matched with the MAX12.....
so i put 2 cabs on one side and one cab on the other side of the amp.. i boosted very little about 2 clicks of 125 to get a slight punch and maybe 2 clicks on the bass knob.. it was a back massager all night long.. the shuttle MAX12 handled it with ease and it moved some air... i should have taken photos but i will this week on another gig..... i was switching back and forth between the FET and TUBE to see which i like more... and im still undecided...
Both preamps have their strong points..
What i liked about the TUBE channel was if turned up some i am able to get some slight tube compression.. and the notes will round over slightly. yet remain tubey clean....
The amp gets pretty freaking loud too..
More to come as time goes on...
