Genz Benz Shuttle Max 12.0

I played last night with 2 guitarists running Marshall stacks and the LMII not only stayed with them but had PLENTY more. Having owned an LMII and a current owner of a Shuttle 6.0, I find the Shuttle to be a louder and puncher amp overall than my LMII was. I ran both heads through an Ampeg 410HLF with an 08 MIA Maple neck P bass.

I actually thought the LMII had a slightly warmer sound but IMO no way does it have the bite and punch of the Shuttle 6.0. The Shuttle seems just a tad lighter on the bottom end than the LMII was, but nothing I can't deal with by using the EQ. One thing I can vouch for at least on the 6.0 is if you try to always run the amp where the clip/limit light never comes on, you are NOT using the amp to it's full potential. There's lots of headroom still when that light comes on so you have to just keep pushing it. Your ear will tell you when the power section really breaks up.

It takes awhile IMO to get used to the clip/limit light on the Genz amps. When it comes on, it doesn't mean the amp is clipping but rather that the limiter circuit is doing it's job. Both my Genz amps, the Shuttle and my GBE1200 will blink those clip/limit lights pretty steady when in use but they never sound like they're clipping and I still have useable headroom with each of them even with the clip/limit LED'd flashing.

One of the main reasons I like the Shuttle 6.0 and the reason I think the Max 12 will be a winner over the LMII is the tube front end. You can get that "just right" amount of grit or OD with the front end that gets you a nice punchy rock tone if you dig in. Back off and it cleans up nicely. I could never get the LMII to do that quite the same way. Considering you have basically two Shuttle 6.0 power sections in the Max 12, you should be quite pleased. Add the fact that you actually get a "mute" button on the Genz amps and it's a winner for me at least.

I think the LMII is a great little amp and will probably get another one sometime, but right now I just like the Genz amps with their tube front ends better.

I'm auditioning for a classic/hard rock cover + a few originals band on wednesday and if I get the gig I'd be making about twice as much as I do now and be able to afford one of these without having to ditch my GK MB2-500 :D

I really hope to put an order in on one of these next weekend...

The LMII is a nice amp... still cant get used to the color though...but its still a nice amp even though hit isn't my thing..

I think you have good points about the shuttle 6 Tube pre... but an added feature on the shuttle MAX12 is that not only did i find the tube pre to be sweet and a little wider soundijg than the 6, but it also has a FET SS pre... and two power amps with two seperate powers supplies inside. in essence it is its own backup amp..

Wow, after reading these threads, I just ordered my 12.0! It will be at my door in 2 days then we will see what it is capable of through my 4 cabinets. I believe I got the best deal out there, so we will see if it pays off losing all the extra gear and weight. I will put to the test....more to come. Also 2 Uber Neo 410 4ohm cabs on the way, can't wait.

Got my Max 12 today and plugged it in to my old school GB LS210 8ohm cab with 1040 speakers. 375 watts pumping old school butter and liquid smoothness from my Fender Jazz. The knobs are straight up flat 12 o'clock all the way across the amp including pre's and post at 1/2. Barely ever saw a clip light when I dug in finger style and the cab was clear and clean with barky compressed mids. The lows were thundery andthe more I pushed it ...the more it liked it almost tempting me to peg my bass vol. How can 7 pounds of wires and whatever reproduce better than the 2 ton amps I've been lugging around for 30 years? My GBE 600 amps still kick major ass and hold their own, but I'm probably gnna be forced to retire them after the 210 test. I will plug my GB LS 410 8 ohm with 1030 speakers tomorrow and run both cabs (six 10s is my usual rig on stage) 1 on each module to see what 750 watts does to my expectations. Keep in mind that I usually process my signal chain with BBE482i and a DBX 266 compressor/gate...... do I need these?? So far the $ I spent for this amp is more than worth it and I would have to give it a 10 right out of the box. I feel like I'm holding a toy or an empty metal box when I move it, and I will put it in my rack when my rack ears arrive and it will never come out. I'm impressed! Thanks Jeff G for a decade plus of unmatched products. One gripe I would like to see the foot switch have a mute toggle like my old GBE600, but that is resolved easily with an A/B switch.

ps - my TU2 tuner gives me the mute I need, otherwise I agree on all points!!

OK,
I'm ready to retire all my 2 GBE600s (they are still great amps) and employ the 12.0 permanantly into my rack. The GB LS410 is a different cab plugged into the 12.0. Very smooth and full with a very throaty bottom. Mids are in your face but not piercing or glassy on top either. Hooked up my Lakland 5 the 210-410 together and it's really a wall of sound and all that I would ever need for indoor gigs except maybe in an open arena or parking lot or big field. I cannot imagine what a Neo's sound like through this amp. I might order 1 UB 4ohm 410Neo and 1 UB 4 ohm 212Neo and call it finished. Selling all of my old gear that has served me very well. Anyone would be an idiot not to buy this amp, it's all versitility in one little hollow box! LoL! For the non GB fans, keep your old work horses and keep working out. MarkBass amps & cabs would be my 2nd choice.
