This is just a pure gut feeling but I believe there's tone in power. Or more specifically, in headroom.

Let's say you have a 600 watt head and a 900 watt played thru the same cabinet at the same volume. While both might be able to hit the same volume, one is working harder than the other.

Actually, between 600 and 900 watts there won't be that big a difference in perceived volume. But while the 600 might be straining to reach that level, the 900 would just be cruising.

(And all the above is based on the preamps having similar output to the power amp.)

I had good tone when playing amps (from different manufactures) in the 300 to 500 watt range. I have great tone now playing amps (from different manufactures) in the 900 watt range.

Maybe I'm the only one... the FET channel on the Shuttle Max 6 I've played was precisely the tone I've been looking for. I greatly prefer the tone of the Shuttle 3 to the Shuttle 6 or, for that matter the Shuttle 9. Ever since the Shuttle Max 6, I was hoping for a FET channel only Shuttle 9.

A black ShuttleMax 9.0.... fully featured... :bassist:
I might even try to find some use for the tube channel :hiding:

I agree. I love the FET sound. I was going to go back to a 3.0 combo from my 6.0 but it isn't quite loud enough. Maybe I'll try this instead. A slight blend of the tube channel could be useful for something I suppose.

Hmmm... I've been leaving my Shuttle 9.0 and my ShuttleMAX 12.0 alone in an intimate setting for weeks now, and still no dice... :( :rollno:

Perhaps I'd be better off just talking to Roger about picking up one of these, eh? :smug: :p :D

This should be a seriously nice head. While somewhat larger than a paperback book these ShuttleMAX heads are still ridiculously light. I think a lot of players are going to appreciate what this head has to offer. :cool:

I'm guessing here and maybe it's already been said.

The SM 9.0 will have the bottom booty of the 9.0 with the two channels and global tone shaping of the Max series.

IMO the Shuttle 9.0 tone is drastically different from the Shuttle Max 12.0. Neither being bad but just different. The Max 12.0 is 3D clarity while the 9.0 is gooooey tubey warm and chewy.
