Genz Benz ShuttleMAX 9.0 Now A Reality

The MAX series features are amazing and unique. You can choose/calibrate the 3 preset tone buttons (low boost, mid cut and high boost), choose tube pre, SS pre or blend them both (each with its' own gain and vol control) and toggle between settings with a footswitch. All that plus a semi- para eq. You can easily arrange to have several tones and switch on the fly. Tweaker's paradise.
Max series has two foot switchable channels (one Tube/one FET), one more midrange control (in both channels), foot switchable variable global tone shape controls, and an additional input pad.
Regular Shuttle series has one Tube channel and preset global tone shaping curves.
Both great amps, one is simple and one is extreme flexible.
Nice, an upgrade option without sacrifice. Two 450W channels into 4 ohms each would not interest me after my 9.0 spoiled me with 900W at 4ohm. This seems like a smart move because I think most 9.0 lovers are with me on this.
However, a Shuttle 18.0 Max would be another story and probably make me pass out with excitement.
....wait, that isn't coming next is it? I better find a soft seat before I check back in.
A Max 18 would be insane.
I can not imagine ever needing that much power on tap.
I could see where if one were playing large venues having that would be cool.
I suppose though if you needed that much amp, you could rack up a Max 9 with a 9 and there you go.

Yes. The two models likely share a very similar output section, but have different front ends (preamps) and a slightly different feature set.
Oh nice...startin to look like a replacement for the GBE1200.
How do these two amps compare sound wise?
Any idea on a price as well?
The thing I'm most curious about is the tone difference between the SM9 and the Streamliner. I'll never need 1800W or probably 900W, so either one of those would suit me fine, depending on my tonal favorite.

Nice! This is one amp many have hoped for. The EQ is quite limited on the Shuttle 9 (IMO), the Max 12 has limited appeal (i.e., only for those using two cabs), and the Max 6, while VERY nice (IMO, by far the nicest head in their 2010 line-up), needed a bit more power for some (that 600 watt power section is not quite as impressive for some as it would seem by the published specs).
Max 9.....perfect spec for those using a high quality 212 or 410 IMO. Cool! I have my 'modern' needs well covered, so no GAS here, but really am looking forward to the (hopefully) more old school Streamliner!

I could not disagree with you more.
All the other Shuttle Models are fine specimens of Ampdome. Each has it's own niche that is filled very well.
The Shuttle 9.0 has excellent wide ranging EQ. The Shuttle Max 12.0 has a lot of appeal to a lot of people. The Shuttle Max 6.0 will stomp all those little Yellow and Black things like Ants running around choked on that Squashy Limiter kicking in with those very limited EQ points. Like the cut only Bass control and the Treble control that is so bad they had to put a passive tone control in to help hide it. Now thats limited.
The Streamliner is going to be like having vanilla ice cream with chocolate fudge cake.
I am so proud of Genz Benz for these new Amps. Makes me want to have a collection of them.
I can just imagine the Streamliner 9.0 into two of the Ubber 15 cabs with their tweeters turned off.
Or the Shuttle Max 9.0 into two of the Ubber Quads!
It is indeed a good time to be a bass player.

There is something about that 1200 that I don't know if the Shuttles will do.
AE212 sounds very nice with most heads I've had the pleasure to hear it with. IMO, it speaks beautifully with the F500, and quite a few are raving about the Shuttle 9. That cab, IMO likes the 'relatively tight and relatively bright' of both of those heads.
The Puma is cool, but is so wide and smooth that it can be a bit much on the gig IMO. And the cost of those in the US has gotten a bit stupid. Beautiful sounding head for that 'Anthony Jackson' type thing though!
I would think the new Max 9 would totally kill with the AE212 or 410... the nice power spec of the Shuttle 9, with the much expanded EQ section of the Max heads. KILLER spec there. If I was not already so pleased with my current line-up, I'd strongly consider the Max 9 for my tone goals. The Streamliner 'should' be something quite different from most of the lightweight heads out there and the current Genz line... we shall see. I put the first order in with the retailer who supposedly put the first order in with Genz (RocketMusic), which means I should have my Streamliner very early in the release window

Greg was absolutely the first to place an order.
Max 6/12 preamp with the power section of the Shuttle 9... hence the 'Max 9'. Nice! So, kind of Max 12 power for those using one big cab or needed high 8ohm power. Nice!
For me, a big point for this unit will be where the voicing is centered. If it is flat centered where the S9 is, then it will be a totally amazing unit. If it is voiced flat more like the SM12, then it will basically sit in a different niche. I am going to be interested to see how these newer offerings are differentiated. Lookin' good GB folks!
I'm wanting the top end of my Shuttle 3.0 with the power of the 9.0. I may be just getting hyper-critical here but that's just me I just prefer the tone of the 3.0 better than the 9.0. I hope to spend more time with the 9.0 today and who knows I could change my mind.

Cool. I love the 3.0/Max6/Max12 FET preamp. To have that with the increased power of the 9.0 would be great.
I am also thinking of adding a fretless/EUB back to my arsenal so a 2 channel amp would be super - even if I have to use the tube pre for one bass.
I like the ability to "blend in" the tube pre, and of course the 2 bands of flexible EQ is awesome.
I had a Max12 for a while and even with a Shuttle 112 cab it was a great little rig. Maybe I'll try it again with the Max 9 and maybe the Uber Quad.
