Genz Benz Streamliner Part 3!!!!

Thanks tombowlus. So those 2 cabs with 12 inch drivers will produce as much room filling bottom as the Avatar TB-153?

Well, in all honesty, though I have not heard it, I would not consider the TB-153 to be a "typical" 1x15. I read your question as asking which 1x12's could compete with a 1x15, and IMHO, both of those can. Except that I would say that an exception to that rule might be a well-designed cab incorporating an Eminence 3015LF. That driver (and the 3012LF) is (are) a game changer(s).

That being said, both the HT112ER and the fEarful 12/6 are very impressive cabs which can definitely compete or best much larger enclosures.

And why you would ever need one of the Genz Benz Amps to run on less than 4 ohms escapes me.

Just because it's fun to move huge air ;) GBE1200 pushing the UBER and Avatar and the NEO-Pak pushing the Carvin 210.

Sadly due to these tough economic times, the Avatar, Neo-Pak, and Carvin have since left the stable (you gotta have food and a roof over your head).

Seriously though, for just about any gig I'd be totally happy with the Streamliner 900 and just my UBER 212.

Keep Low :bassist:

Hi, I've got a Streamliner 900 on demo from our local GB dealer and it is quite an impressive piece of gear! The thing that stands out to me is the note "heft." Even on the G string there's a "chewyness" to the sound that invites you to dig in hard and feel the goodness. It never seems to get harsh in the highs like most other amps I've played lately. You can definitely feel the tube compression smoothing things out nicely.

That being said, I'm not sure this is a tone I need at the moment. My GK MB212 is the absolute ruler of the only gig I've got right now (piano trio @ casino) and hauling my GK MBE410 + this little sweetheart of an amp would be major-league overkill. The gig requires a super-quick amp with plenty of cutting upper-mids.

I'm going to compare the Streamliner to half of my QSC PLX1804...both 900 watts @ 4 ohms. Theoretically, they should have the same amount of headroom but initial impressions are that the QSC seems to have a little more.

Since the SL900 probably won't sound optimal with my LDS 156, I was thinking of 2 SL900's. One going to a 212NEOX overdriven and the other SL900 going to my LDS 156 clean. :bassist:

My 156 is sans tweeter so maybe it would sound good over driven.

2 SL900's are still less than half the weight of my B1500 and take up less room.

Negative. I have not yet been contacted by Mike with a tracking number to date. Maybe the Post-It note with my info fell off the wall... Go figure.

My order was placed January 24, 2011.

My fingers are crossed!

I was in contact with Roger @ Genz yesterday, and I was told that product will be shipping to dealers next week. So with shipping times from AZ you can do the math. I think the demand was so great that things got a little behind on production, but that's JMO.

Thanks tombowlus. So those 2 cabs with 12 inch drivers will produce as much room filling bottom as the Avatar TB-153? If so, I will be looking into them. My GB Neo X 2x12T is a great cab, but does not even come close to the output of clean bottom the 15 inch driver in my Avatar produces. I can't wait to receive my Streamliner 600 and shoot live gig video paired with both the above mentioned cabs.

Just to clarify, I would humbly disagree with you Tom.
The character of the low end would indeed be very similar to the 3015LF in an optimum cab, but SPL-wise, if you feed the 3015LF cab enough clean power, I'm pretty sure it would take two of the 1x12 cabs that Tom mentions to keep up.

Tom has direct experience with all three of these (well the fEarful 15/6/1 instead of the Avatar 3-way), so I'm very hesitant to disagree.
I think maybe Tom didn't get the "What 12" cab have u played that can move as much air and produce as much bottom as a 15"?" -- as in cab singular and moving as much air...
For a 1x12 cab to do that, it would have to have more xmax and either higher sensitivity or higher power handling.

Am I missing something here?

greenboy? Around?

Speaker/cabinet designers would disagree with you. Its a case by case basis.

Many people used to put a 15" under a 4x10 for more low end volume, but more often than not those 410's have more low end extension than 15's. The 3015 in that Avatar is the king of the crop right now for sure though.

The issue here is volume, not low end. A long x-max 15 will obliterate any single 12 in terms of volume, assuming you give them both enough elecrons, unless the 15 box design is badly flawed.

Maybe summa youse guys missed one little thang tom said, about "normal" 15 cabs being the basis of his earlier statement. He's fully aware that a 3015LF design can outperform a 3012LF one in terms of potential output over the same bandwidth. This is his fEARful™ (eat dirt, clumsy clueless copycats!) stack:

This is his fEARful 12/6cube doing the job alone (gotta put the tilt-back leg on it, Tom - it's really nice):

Truth is, a 12/6 done right can ream many conventional 212 cabs.

What could you compare a 15/6 to in overall volume for people that have not heard one.

Hey guys, when I posted I had a bunch of threads open. I didn't even connect with the fact that this was a SL thread after seeing this 15/6 stuff getting yapped about. So after this I'd post I'd prefer to tread lighter and just point at the fEARful website. You guys are always welcome in the fEARful threads!

hey svtb15, I thought you were gonna change your user name ; } - anyway, a comparison of loudness with 1 watt and with power enough to drive the cabs to full potential is posted in the FAQ here: http://www.talkbass.com/wiki/index....et_be_louder_than_.5Bsome_other_cabinet.5D.3F

It's only a rough thing because there are variances in various models of cabs with the same amount of drivers, and because some people cue to different areas of the frequency spectrum when determining loudness. I will say that fullness without boom is probably what makes them sound louder in the real world, and I always get the sense that the Uber cabs must be somewhat in that type of favorable dispensation in real world mixes.

Since the SL900 probably won't sound optimal with my LDS 156,

Depends on your definition of "optimal".
If you want a full, rich sound with clear articulation and plenty of bottom, then it's pretty optimal.
I'm playing through that combination.

If you want the sound of 10's pushed to breakup, then not so much... by definition. :D

IME, my 2 nEarfuls (LDS 15/6 and Avatar TB153) compare to a good 410, if you feed them 500 watts. I recently caved and changed my GB order from SMax 9.2 to a SL900 and played it at band practice yesterday alternating between those 2 nEarfuls and a Schro BMF 1515. It sounds pretty good with all of them, but I haven't had a chance to properly compare them. Next week I'll compare all 3 cabs with the SL900 and a Walkabout and will likely post in the Walkabout megathread.
