Genz Benz Streamliner Part 3!!!!

Just posted a thread comparing the Streamliner 900, GBE 1200, and Mesa M9 Carbine.

Long read, but hopefuly it can assist some folks with similar tonal tastes.

Thanks for that... interesting read!

This mid-scoop that has been mentioned a couple of times has me a little perplexed, though.

Presumably we're not talking 'mid-suck' along the lines of, for example, SansAmp? Is it more subtle than that?

Thanks for the review KsPiNeSh.

Yes pretty much stating what is shaping up to be the Liner tone.

I never could get around the hiss of the Mesa M amps (M2000, M6, M9....) and I think Mesa is an awsome company. The Mark III Boogie is the best guitar amp ever built. Too bad they do not make it anymore. The Bass 400 was such a nice amp as well.

M6's hiss? I gigged with one Friday night and also did a quiet A-B demo in a friends home studio and didn't hear a sound other than great tone!

This has been very often discussed... it depends on the cab... in particular, the type of tweeter, the crossover, and the attenuator setting (if it has one.)

No, I don't think so. It's more of a subtle voicing thing that can be dialed back in via the mid control.

Vic nailed it :)

+1. I had a fathom that hissed like a cobra, as well as both M6 and 9 that were dead quiet apart from their fans. The SL900 fan is whisper quiet, as is the head itself.

I owned the M2000 for about two weeks, it hissed like a snake. I purchased it new and returned it for a 400+.

I later played the M6 and M9 at my local MB dealer through a Berg AE4x10 and both hissed very badly. These amps appear to me to be built on the M2000 platform. At the time I played the 6 and 9 I was not even thinking about hiss but it was so bad I could not EQ it out. It did help if I turned the tweeter off. At the time I also played a Shuttle 12.0 through the same cabs and it was quiet as a mouse.

Perhaps some of them do not hiss. I know at the time I took the M2000 back a guy at MB (I will not name) told me those had that problem and they would be discontinuing the amp. I have owned many a Boogie in my day and think they are great but I did not like the hiss of these units.

Anyway sorry for the derail. Now back to the Streamliner.

Lomo! Did you get a Streamliner? Have you run it through your TB-153? I am awaiting the arrival of my SL 600 and curious how they sound together.

I did, and I'm diggin' the sound but am waiting for my Walkabout to get back from Mesa service late this week in order to compare it with the SL900 on the TB153, LDS 15/6 and a Schro BMF 1515. I'll post in about 10 days, likely in the Walkabout thread. I also wanna play 'em all with the band, and for a hobbyist/hack like me that'll take another week or so. Last practice I played all 3 cabs with the SL900. I prefer the nEarful sound and with minimal eq the LDS and TB153 sound virtually identical to me-monster cabs-as you already know. The Schro is less big on the bottom but for the distorted end of the SL900 spectrum that box excelled and cuts like a scimitar.

Does anyone know if it's possible to use a preamp in the send/return loop, bypassing the preamp of the Streamliner?
Has anyone tried that? Anyone used the DI yet? Is it any good?

Thanks,

KN

Yes, it has been mentioned in the thread a few times. I don't recall seeing any actual reports yet.

yes, put it into the return. That way you'll only be using the output section of the Liner

I have used the DI at least 10 times.. a few fairly large outdoor events too, with nice large JBL Vertec PA and monitors...
Its flawless.. pristine and clear.. full range and so close in sound to one of the standard DIs. the Countryman Type 85 Active DI that you can not tell the difference. Ukiah did a Coutryman comparison a few years ago.. I did a small write up on it here too a while ago.. Dont know where it is though... The Search function here is difficult at times..
Sounds great!
