Actually, I happened to have a chance to compare my SL900 to an LMIII through a Berg AE410 last week. I didn't have a whole lot of time to compare, but nothing shocking - the LM mids have more inherent texture, the VLE gives a comparable old-school top end feel, and the SL900 killed it in girth and heft.

Keep in mind that the SL will do a nice "modern" type of sound. The smoothness will be there if the tone is clean, but it gets nice and sharp up top if you want to go that route. Not LMIII bright, but bright enough for most players I would imagine.

Thanks! I barely touch the LM3 EQ if I'm honest, the filters are normally tweaked a tiny bit.

What I'm after is the LM3 warmth/quickness and uber clarity / totally clean tone. I do love dirty cranked amps, so I'd like the option, but for this current scenario it has to have a lot of clean/quickness on tap.

Quick question... why not the Neutrik Combo Speakon-1/4" connectors? Lotsa' folks using those now and they're so convenient when you run into stuff like this.

Believe it's because the minimum wattage of the amp exceeds the ?CEU? standards for a 1/4" output and has to be speakon to sell in the EU.

Or something like that.

liability.
Really? Even though it's still a speakon connector primarily? I'm DEFINITELY no expert on export controls and regulations and such, but that does come as a surprise. No matter to me of course tho... I avoid 1/4" output connections like the plague. :)

I *love* the dual use speakons.
They mean "I never get screwed by having the wrong cable."

Cause, quite frankly, I'm dumb.
Yeah, I have all the right cables, mostly even two or three of each.
But at the end of the night, in the rush to leave the club, I might put one in a gig bag instead of an amp bag, ammo box or whatev. Then I've dorked myself for the next gig, when I bring the Alleva instead of the Sadowsky, or the Walkabout instead of the M9.

Universal connectors save me from myself;)

I think the legislation calls out running more than 300 watts means you aren't suppose to use the 1/4" cables/connectors.

I think it's that whoole crazy TUV thing over-seas...

I just received notification that my SL600 has shipped. I'm in NZ and couldn't wait for the distributor here to get some in. Besides they really rip your wallet for gear over here. The NZ-US currency conversion is pretty good at the moment so I couldn't resist. I've only been playing a couple of years and this is my first serious amp purchase and one I'm sure I'll be very happy with.

yeah. It isn't the jack.....it's the plug. So even with an adapter, you still have that 1/4" plug. I got zapped, but good with one while I was messing around with a GBE1200. I was using an adapter.

While I was having a Roland looper continually play a riff, I was reaching behing the amp....plugging and unplugging, in conjunction with A/B'ing another cabinet. So, while voltage was going throught the plug, I touched the wrong part.
