RoHS-required lead-free solder comes with its own set of problems, like tin whiskers. Not good for reliability!

eh.....I think most amp builders are beyond that issue now.

Some fuse and tube makers are having a few challenges.

I think the legislation calls out running more than 300 watts means you aren't suppose to use the 1/4" cables/connectors.
Understood, but the combo jacks are also speakon, so there is no imposed restriction to using the 1/4"... only their availability for suitable conditions in which to use them. That's why I was curious. I can understand this if deciding between strictly 1/4" and speakon, but not so much for the combo where the "correct" jack is always there no matter what.

Anyway, it's legal, right? Doesn't have to make sense... right Tom? ;) :D

<soap>
BTW, as long as I'm in a GB thread, I'll bash Mesa a little... WHY OH WHY THE F... ummm... HECK did they use strictly 1/4" connectors on the back of the M3??? Ok, yeah, I know, it's not above the power restriction for them, but still... makes no sense to me... :hmm:

Speakons FTW. :)

Nanny State...have to protect people from the option of exceeding limits set for their safety. Using the combo jacks is giving people a license to electrocute themselves ;)

I just received notification that my SL600 has shipped. I'm in NZ and couldn't wait for the distributor here to get some in. Besides they really rip your wallet for gear over here. The NZ-US currency conversion is pretty good at the moment so I couldn't resist. I've only been playing a couple of years and this is my first serious amp purchase and one I'm sure I'll be very happy with.

I bet you are excited.

Congrats! You made a great choice. :bassist:

Is this speakon and 1/4" conversation talking about cables with a speakon end to and end with a 1/4" end? im a little lost? This will be my first piece of equipment with speakons, and my cabs are quarter inch only. But they do makes chords with both ends.

Are these not ok? or am i mis-understanding all this stuff.? I'm just hoping the chords im looking at will work now.

They make cords with speakon on one end and 1/4" on the other. I have a few cabs that require that as well.

OK cool these guys must be talking about some kind of speakon adapter you put over a 1/4" end. Dunno why someone would do that and not buy the right cable but hey to each his own I guess.

Well, I am sure it is cheaper to buy the adaptor. I loose those kind of small items though!

Actually, they're talking about the connectors on the back of the amp. There are some amps that use speaker connectors that you can plug either speakon or 1/4" into. GB does not employ those for safety and regulatory reasons. However, you can use speakon to 1/4" to your speakers.

+1000! .....and the Walkabout only has 1/4" Speaker jacks too. Dammit! That bit me in the arse when inadvertently I brought a Speakon cable with my Walkabout to a gig. I can be my own worst enemy when I decide to change things up for an odd gig.

I can't decide what cab to go with my SL-900. Right now I've been using a Thunderchild cab with either a Mesa Walkabout or an AI Focus head. I know I'm going to have to be really careful with that 4 ohm load if I use the TH with that beast.

I'm thinking about a 2X12 or maybe a 4X10. Opinions?

Those GB Uber cabs look pretty sweet. I am a huge fan of Bergantino AE410 or AE212. They take a ton of power and kick ass!
