On getting the SL dialed....can someone explain to me how the gain structure/preamp volume work in conjunction with the SL? I mean, let's say you get your sound dialed just the way you like and that's the way you want to keep it. At that point do you just adjust your volume with the master (ie. bedroom practice vs. band)? Will the master volume up and down have any effect on the overall tone?

This is my first "big time" amp so I've never had all these features available to me before. I'm VERY excited to start dialing this thing in. It should be here tomorrow!

Very cool..
Doug John is a smoking player and nice and friendly guy.. Did he play his Pedulla?..

He has one of the old ones without the Neck stiffening bars which is real nice!!!
Him and i chatted alot about GB and Pedullas at bass player live last fall... We have the same bass from the same year...
So glad he is with Genz.. They make that bass sing!

He did play his Pedulla, and it sounded fabulous!

Has anyone seen/ordered the 19" Rack Mounting kit for the Streamliner 600/900? I'm curious to see if it's simply two ears or a shelf based type bracket. Any photos or images?

it is shelf based....and it bends up in the front creating a face plate. The face plate is relieved to show the front of the amp but black out the spaces to the sides.

The amp mounts by removing the feet and using those holes to mount on the shelf.

None have been ordered yet...we're still finishing up on it so I haven't established pricing.

:hyper:- I like the shelf better. I will keep my ears and eyes open to hear when this is available.
Thanks. :D

To me, rack mounting any micro head is "counter to the mission," and not something that would interest me.

your needs and opinion may vary, of course.

Just keep in mind people buy these heads strictly for tonal reasons, too. :) They may already have a rack with other stuff in it, so it would make no sense to carry another bag if they didn't have to. :)

I was working out some parts last night with the Headphone amp in the SL900.. I was using an old Sony set of phones that i have.. you can really hear the low end and how smooth it is.. and the highs are not that upper mid clank type of highs you would get at times when using headphone only... but instead smooth and silky... everything at 12:00 just sounded sweet..

IMO from messing with this amp for a week now.. I have to say Genz you picked the right Freq centers for boost and cut,, and the width and depth of the Q is spot on...

And Just for fun Please bring back and resurrect the 4001/4002 Direct box ;):bassist::bassist:

This is one of the reasons I ordered one without playing through one first. The bass freq center was especially important and one of the reasons I didn't care for the early Shuttle models.

I agree with this to some degree.... but 2 or 3 times a year all the gear gets thrown (tightly) into a trailer... and the contents take quite a bit of abuse over the course of 3 or 6 months... so rackmounting is a necessity. In this case I may just do a foam surround 2RU box that I can slide the SL out of for shows.

One thing I worry about is the unit vibrating off the top of my UB810 it's so light... I've actually seen this happen with STL6.0's... where they would actually vibrate right off the top of cabinets.... Shamed though I am to admit it.... I hope GB adopts the FENDER Rumble 300 / 410 solution to this issue... small cups in the top of the cabinets that are strongly magnetized, and corresponding magnets in the rubber feet in the bottom of the amp. Awesome Idea. You listening Hasbeen? You hear me over there Roger?

;)

For me, I like a quick, punchy tone with lots of mids, so once I figured out my ideal EQ I got the mids AND the larger low end I was hoping for. Cab is an Uber 410, so plenty of growl there, and I EQ it like this:

The key for me was to back the lows down a bit, making the mids pop a little more. For the sake of EQing I left the gain and volume at noon, but there is a good amount of flexibility in the gain structure as well.

Looking forward to trying this at my next rehearsal tomorrow night. I think we have similar tone goals and we are playing the identical rig.

While I am only playing a mere UB 410:D, I must say that I have never been concerned with this amp vibrating off of the cab. While it is a light-weight compared to my GBE1200 in a road ready rack case, it is a substantial enough piece that I really doubt it is going to vibrate off.

Haven't had a chance to try mine in a band setting and it might be a while, so definitely report back.

The feet are longer and the form factor larger than the Shuttles (in addition to the 50% extra weight), so I agree that it should be fine.

Looking forward to you guys getting your amps
With all this pent up emotion I'm hoping we can get an unbiased review. I know its hard to not be biased towards being overwhelmingly positive as you want it so bad to be the best thing since sliced bread.
So heres to you guys getting your amps & being real in the review.
Excellent point. I posted my thoughts back there somewhere. It does what it does really well, but it is one flavor out of many different choices. When I demoed it, it made me realize that a real tube amp "isn't my thing." But I totally understand why many folks are in love with it!
