Genz Benz Streamliner Part 3!!!!

Ran through a little bit of "My Girl" each time. Here is the amp order for each run-through.

1) Streamliner 900, flat, post-EQ
2) Streamliner 900, pre-EQ
3) Mesa M9 Carbine, pre-EQ
4) GBE 1200, pre EQ

Thanks for the clips.

After a quick listen, the post-EQ SL clip is the easiest to pick out. Sounds very nice, IMO. All the pre-EQ clips were fairly similar, at least upon a quick comparison. If it were me, I'd probably use the post-EQ send on the SL.

I personally like the idea of having both the Streamliner and the Shuttle. They are both Genz Benz bass amps, but they handle the instrument in very different ways. The Streamliner really has the "tube sag", and killer OD if you want. It can go clean and loud, but it still has the squish of a tube amp. The Shuttle has a tighter, faster response, even the tube channel. It may seems excessive to some... but I see lots of guys here with more than one amp.... so I say instead of one vs. the other - the answer is, both!

Pairing a Shuttle 9.0 and a Streamliner 900 would make a formidable two-channel amp!

This has been talked about a little but I still don't think there is a consensus. Wouldn't the master volume allow you to get the same out of the 3DPM?

That's rather the point ... I don't know.

Apparently the 3DPM does something like rounding out any clipping that needs to happen to the bottom end, as would happen if you start to overload a set of power valves.

If the amp is (basically) just ticking over because I'm not running it very hard am I going to lose the "valviness" of the amp as 3DPM isn't having to do its thing?

Spades of punchy mid if you want it. That was one of my concerns as well and turned out to be unfounded. My impression is that the SL can punch very hard indeed with a couple of knob twists.

Well, here is my only concern with the DI issue and not running an amp "flat". To get the nicest sound FOH, you might want to take the post-eq DI signal. If you can do that while leaving the eq flat, you have the best chance of not giving the sound guy a weird peaky signal. If you are boosting the mids to sound good on stage, will FOH hear something too honky and middy?

Almost all of my gigs I don't go through the PA so it doesn't matter that much to me. But if you do, and you happen to want to send a post-eq DI signal, that *could* be an issue.

I hope the Genz guys answer this one.

I actually bought two....the second arrived today. This one is bound for my pal back in the UK. :)

Are you the Talkbass police?

What you do is is your business... However, I do find it strange you have two of these units, one for you, one from another shipment for a "friend" in the UK. the one you open up the enclosure on is your friend's... I assume this because you had alluded that you had already been playing through your SL900 head when you got the first one.

TB Police, of course not! However, many folks are waiting for a phone call for #1 from YOMS, you in fact now have two from two different shipments. I call it like I see it.

If I were the friend in the UK, I'd be a bit surprised that you decided to open his unit, not just the package. That strikes me as very odd in deed.

My Shuttle9 seems to have more deep lows than my Shuttle6..
Especially if use the DEEP button.. And the SL900 has a huge bottom with all things set at 12:00.
With clean low gain settings the SL has some real fast urgency...And punchy... Great amp..

Thanks Ed, some people say that the S9.0 has better lows than the other shuttles, is that true or imagined hype? If it is real, does the SM 9.2 have the lows of the S9.0?

I'm not saying this is the case but, if a store is not current with a manufacturer, the manufacturer will not send the shipment.

I've seen this many times working at music stores. A friend came in and ordered a Fender amp. 6 weeks later after many phone calls asking why isn't the amp here yet I found out from the purchasing agent that it was never ordered because the store was already behind in payments. The order was canceled.
