I was looking at the REDDI Tube DI Megathread & saw that guys with the 3K all tube Aguilar DB750 STILL used a REDDI for more tube warmth to their direct signal.
I'm not the only one who thinks about direct signal I guess & its a common issue that has to be addressed by other gear no matter what amp you buy.
Thats the "golden question" I want to know as well!hey all....looking for a lightweight alternative to my DB 750. You guys think this can do it!? ^_^
Well now I'm on a long quest to compare the DIs of Streamliners, LM, GK, Eden, $35 Behringer DI pedals, REDDI etc. I'm just surprised at todays findings that the differences will be subtle to the board.
Am I looking at it wrong? I just had the question in my mind & was looking for an answer... just wanted to know if the crowd could hear the difference of a $1000 amp vs a $30 DI pedal.
KsPiNeSh thanks for the clips. Its rudimentary but no way could I tell amp to amp with those, let alone in a mix.
If that was my direct tone pre EQ I would want to add warmth to get "my sound", its a little hollow for what I'm playing.
If I had the money I would get me one..
Thats the rub with everything eh? I was hoping the Streamliner tube would cover what a REDDI does.
A/B Streamliner DI vs a REDDI?
Just kidding! We're done here. I put out some calls to GENZ dealers in the Boston area so hopefully I can test drive one soon.
I am more worried about the things a REDDI can't do that a streamliner can. Great amp I tell ya, I love mine to bits. The most happy I have been with an amp in some time.
If you want a micro that sounds like a tube amp this is ahead of the pack clearly & if its a few hundred more than the others so be it for the quality, Kjungs clips convinced me. The GK MB500, Shuttle, LM III are all too hi fi for my tests. I think the LM tube is too subtle a difference & the Streamliner would crush it in an A/B test. Price wise LM tube is too close to the Streamliner.
If you're going to have a piece of gear for 10 years + you're going to forget the extra cash. My Eden Nav & Sterling have been awesome, mediocre gear costs less & you lose money when you sell it off after you're tired of it.
There was a DB750 comparison pages back, look up things from ElMon, he is a dedicated 750 user that just got his SL900. IIRC, he really likes the 900.
By that standard, the Streamliner 900 MORE than matches up. Yes it's different and shouldn't be thought of as an exact substitute for Big Daddy Aggie, but IMO/IME it accomplishes the same tone/feel overall, but with more EQ control and a much smaller/lighter form factor.
That is the most gushing review for the Streamliner yet. In the ballpark of a DB750? Really? Thats the dream amp for tone. Cost & portability being the problem but its that close? Wow.
Its weird how this thread can give me gas for an amp I already have![]()

Very informative. This is probably all GENZ will say, they aren't going to comment on its DI tone vs another amp manufacturer.
Without A\B clips, and going on that diagram, we'll have to assume that the crowd MAY be able to pick out a Streamliner from a Peavey, Behringer, LM, GK etc all else equal but it would be subtle.
I've over worn my welcome so thanks for the help guys sorry for the trouble.
