That'll be enough of the personal bickering.
I edited that crud out once, and if I come back to do it again, it'll be with The Infraction Stick at hand.

Yes.. the grate gave out. there was snow over it i went down 2 to 2-1/2 feet into ice water.. I was soaked.. and now my neck is hurting like crazy... I have no idea how my neck is hurting.. i would think it would be my knees that hit the side wall of the hole..
anyway my hands are all numb... went to Chiro yesterday and it is not better.. It never ends!!!

Dude...you fell through a grate? I hope you're okay, because that sounds pretty not fun.

Probably jammed your neck with the abrupt landing.
Hope you get better real soon.

back problems are nothing to be trifled with, and they can indeed start from something lower being out of alignment.
Been there, didn't like it.

Get well soon.

I have suffered with this problem for years. I got kicked in the head by a Chinese Crescent Kick in a Chang Mu Qwan match a number of years ago. I finally broke down and had surgery in 08. I'm much better than I was but still suffer.

I hope yours is a temporary condition.

My spinal surgery is what sent me down the lightweight quest/road. Every time I picked up a heavy amp I would pay a price for it. The Shuttle 9.0 ended up solving the problem for me. Along with some light cabs too.

@nostatic:

Totally used to cover that song back in the day.
Wonder how that would fly in ClubLand anymore...may have to dust that off, thx;)

I was loving my Shuttle 9.0 and could not imagine how it's tone/features could possibly be one upped but it has been. My Shuttle 9.0 will now become my rehearsal amp and my Streamliner will be the main coarse Amp.

Is the Streamliner that much better than the Shuttle 9? The reason I ask is that I'm so torn between those 2 amps. I had a Shuttle 6 for 2 years, and was set on getting the Shuttle 9. Then this Streamliner came along, and spun my head around, but now I'm having second thoughts.

The main reason that has me worried is the thing that makes these heads so different. THE TUBES...I'm the kind of guy that likes to set it and forget it, and I don't like to have to carry extra tubes with me. I'm probably making a mountain out of a mole hill, but I need some help.

THE TUBES [/QUOTE said:
Speaking of the tubes and not to go off track.....I have very little tube experience and I wanted to go ahead and get a few extras to have on hand in case I ever need them for my SL600. I am not sure what to get cause I have seen 12ax7, 12au7 and other descriptors. What should I get and where should I get them? Thanks for help on this

IMO, they are two completely different beasts. I played through both on Friday, the 9.0 has a diffenite SS sound compared to the STL 900. The STJ is just so much warmer and fatter.

Well the Shuttle 9.0 has a tube also.

It just depends on your tonal goals. I can not know what you like/need.

The Shuttle 9.0 is by no means chopped liver. The 9.0 and the Streamliner are just different.

Best way I can describe it is the Shuttle 9.0 leans more toward being more articulate not really hi fi though IMHO. I have seen many folks call the 9.0 hi fi but IMO it is warmer than anything out there in the Micro arena except the Streamliner.

The Streamliner has this inherent smokiness/old tube ampness to it that is always there and the elasticity is unreal. I would not have believed it had I not experienced it. While it has lots of give it will break stuff in adjoining rooms.:D

I like a semi scooped mids and that is built into the Streamliner. The 9.0 is more flat but with some extra bottom booty. The Streamliner has a bit of a very smooth scooped mid but not overly, as the top end is very smooth as well.
I hope I'm helping here as I have a difficult time describing how something sounds.

With my 9.0 I would run the mid scoop button and bass boost button then disengage the bass boost when switching to Upright Bass as well as cutting 150 Hz a smidgen. With the Streamliner I play it set flat with a slight cut to the bass control when using my Upright.

I prefer the tone of the Streamliner but if I were to loose it tomorrow I could live with the 9.0 for sure. If that makes any sense.

I'm pretty much dead set on buying a Max 9.2 today, but this Streamliner also really interests me, especially after watching Ed's video/demo.

I'm still thinking the Max head is probably more what I need/want, but damn, these Genz guys don't make it an easy choice!!!

My understanding and my experience is that preamp tubes, on the whole and unlike power tubes, rarely fail. I've gigged my GBE 1200, which contains a preamp tube, heavily over 5 years and have owned various other hybrid amps with varying numbers of tubes for years without any issues. It is certainly good practice to carry a spare, but I would be willing to bet that most who do have never needed to change a preamp tube on the fly. IMO, no reason to be concerned :)

Gosh I have probably seen thousands of tubes fail in my 30+ years of playing and fooling with tube amps.

It does happen.

I have had brand new tubes shipped to me that were DOA right out of the box. Tubes do not fare well in shipping especially todays current production tubes with their less pure metallurgy.

Does that mean a fellow can not operate a Streamliner reliably with current production tubes? No it does not. It's just that using tubes is much like the usage of tubes. It's always good to have a spare and know how to change it rather than wait until you need it and don't have what is needed.

Or you could just throw in the towel at the first item on the nomenclature of tube usage.

+1

I think of tubes as fuses/patchcords/batteries - and if you gig regularly and don't have spares you are asking for trouble. If the tube tone is worth it for you, have a backup and know how to install it.

Some guys just aren't into worrying about the extra variable, and objectively speaking as a "tubey" guy, it's not my place to judge. To each his own, etc., etc.

Red Planet - if you don't mind, I'll be hitting you up for your thoughts on tube tweaking once my Streamliner arrives; sounds like you've got some nice ideas on how to shape the sound effectively.
