There are not tube retainers on top
.. Teh way they seat into the PCB is deep and there is a good friction grip like no other tube socket that i have messed with.

But the tubes are incredibly hard to remove or shift..... and i mean incredibly hard! I tried and they didn't move wiggle or shift on mine at all,, Maybe if it wer dropped on it top form 10 feet in the air.. maybe and i mean maybe they would pop out.. mine is snug as can be.. and im sure they are all like this one.. My guess is very rough shipping handling, perhaps UPS playing football catch with the boxes. dont know..

For anyone that has one of these and has been into it, is there any kind of tube retainer for the tubes like the shuttles have?

thats not a fair contest. As vibey and classic as a B15N is, the Streamliner power and Berg AE212 should handily win that shootout ...if I were a betting man. :hiding:

I'm not sure that will be the case... my guess is that the Streamliner will wind up being (as you suggest) much more powerful and flexible - so very gig friendly - but still not able to bring the totally classic vibe of the B15. However, volume will certainly not be the only criteria, and I'm not necessarily looking for a winner. Just looking to get a comparison for those who might find it useful.

Thanks! I still think 95%+ problems will be tube related. They don't have to actually fall out to be a problem. Yes, the shipping and the weather were most likely the culprits in any issues. Very cold temps and vibrations, shocks, etc. are a bad combination with vacuum tubes. I am glad the sockets are high quality. I would expect nothing less from Genz Benz!

You may want to try it through a 115 box with no tweeter... that could be a nice vintage vibe.. will it be exactly like a B15. no.. but the reissue B15 are not exactly like a vintage B15.. but good enough.... just play the thing is what i say.... if it works it works.. we put too many things under the microscope to the point of losing the expressive nature of music..

I have never seen tube sockets like this actually . Its like there is a gorilla grip socket below the PCB.. Just incredible grip.. Almost to the point that it seems like the tube is soldered in . BUT IT ISNT.. you can eventually wiggle them out to swap if you want.
But as you said it could be temp, drops in shipping, etc that could cause a tube to go south..

Im thinking the SL900 will be a good recording tool.. Im bringing it with me today to run EFFECTS out into REDDI to record a commercial demo.. Was messing with it last night listening through the headphone out through my Westone ES2 IEMS and I think the pre on this amp is very sweet sounding.. smooth highs that are silky and not Gank..

Pic of the SL900 (on my LDS nEarful) from the Oakland CA GTG (mentioned a few posts back). SuhWEET sounds!

This is a hypothetical, but what if a tube were to shatter while it's in a SL900 socket. How would you remove it then?

See how it sounds as a pre w/out the REDDI.
