Genz Benz Streamliner Part 3!!!!

Output. I don't know about jlepre, but I know myself and others in this thread don't need 900 watts.

Personally, I see the 900 as being the ultimate in versatility. Very few people will "need" 900 watts.
However, at 8 ohms having 500 watts at your disposal means you can get the most out of your 8 ohm cab. Especially some of the more power hungry cabs 8 ohm cabs (fEarful, Berg HT-ER, anything with a 3012lf or 3015lf for that matter), all the while leaving plenty of juice for adding another cab if you desire.
Not to mention the headroom it provides.

I does pretty well as a stand alone.. However it is 8 ohms so pick your amp accordingly.
I used a single 1288 Quad on a gig two weeks ago, it was very full and punchy articulate.. It is louder than a 210 not as much as a 410 though.. I think it has more clarity in the mids than a 410.. you can here the note ceter clearly..It growls like a multi 10s cab but is smoother throughout..

The bolded info has me intrigued. I have loved my Uber 410 with the GBE1200. I received my Streamliner 900 on Saturday afternoon and it went straight to the gig with me. Because I didn't have time to tweak it to my ear, I left everything straight up at 12:00 O'clock, and then gave the mids a slight bump at the 600 Hz (or is it 650 Hz?) setting.

I had FOH support but I also play with two very loud guitarists and a heavy-handed drummer, and three of us sing so I still need some decent push to hear myself well on stage.

The first thing I noticed was how much deeper the lows are then with my GBE1200, and not in a boomy way at all, just very rich, growly and deep. I also loved the highs, which were very smooth and cut right through the mix without being harsh or clanky. I also noticed that the mids were not as defined and punchy as with the 1200. Now, this could be that I just need to tweak a bit with the mids. My sound guy, who is a bass player, noticed this as well by the way.

Interestingly, everyone else I spoke to, including the guys in the band, said they loved it. So, I am thinking based on Kirk's take highlighted above that to achieve my perfect sound, I may have to now invest in a pair of 1288s to get some of that mid-definition and perhaps punch back. BUT, overall I really liked what I heard from this amp. I think it is a great combination of tubey goodness and warmth, but with a modern edge to it in terms of clarity and growl. BTW, I'm not much of a slapper, but I do a little, and I loved the tone. It was not as fast at the pops as my 1200, but it cut right through the mix and sounded better than I had been able to achieve previously, at least to my ear and IME.

Well I put in an order with Mike at Ye olde for an SL600. He said he'll get em in 7 to 10 days. I currently am using a Hartke HA3500 with 1-4x10cab that I also just order replacement CA2010's for and a 1x15. I can't wait to hear these speakers with this head!

This makes me think the Streamliner 900 with a Bergie AE410 might just be AMAZING together. The sum total could very well be perfection!

+1 If 600 watts ain't cutting it, someone else needs to turn down.

Bah! :D Don't you know we live in the Supersize me world?:smug:

300 more watts for $120. I'm there dude!:hyper:

I mean I ain't gonna be the wimpy guy at the GTG that has to turn the volume all the way to 4. Especially with Greg next to me with his rig barely above 1 and he's keepin' up?

Man that'd squash all my macho.:ninja: Everybody'll laugh like I wasn't a man.

:D

God Bless, Ray

Lucky for you, KJung posted 2 vids using this exact combination :) Sounds pretty darn sweet from where I sit.

Exactly! I only wished for the video demo of the Boutique Jazz basses through that rig ...that never came. sigh. But based on what I heard, the combination of Streamliner and Berg AE410 is superb. Vintage, classic, yet articulate and well defined.

Very interested in your thoughts here :) Personally, I found my ABII to be way dark and undefined for my tastes (in contrast to the basses in my sig), so I'd be very interested to hear how the EQ situation works out for you. I typically play my GBE 1200 essentially flat on the gig, LF boost ~ 3:00, both channels on with a dash of tube dirt. How do you usually EQ your 1200?

My ABII is really old-school in that it has the mahogany body with FD1 PUPs. I've always had a tough time with taming the highs on my ABII. I am using Circle K strings, which are a bit tamer than the Stainless Steel Dingwall strings.

On my 1200, I've always had the bass boosted to roughly 2 O'Clock, the low mids between 2 and 3, the high mids and treble cut between 10 and 11 o'clock. I typically used just the tube channel with slight grit. I sometimes boosted the high end attack, and sometimes added the FET channel for a boost in gain.

This has yielded a fairly nice growly tone, and I usually go with the PUPS at the series setting, unless I wanted a more scooped sound with tamer mids, in which case I went with parallel.

Now with the 900, I had the Tube gain at roughly between 10 to 11, and the preamp volume at roughly 12, the bass and treble at 12, the low mids boosted slightly (1ish) and master volume at 12. I had the bass setting flat and the passive treble tone control flat in the middle.

I was really surprised at the extended nature of the lows on the Streamliner compared to the 1200. Not only that, but the lows were very articulate and clear. My B string sounded better than it ever has in terms of both girth and clarity. I have never felt lacking in the low-end, but the Streamliner really opened my eyes! I knew the highs would be smoother, but I was impressed by how smooth. Now I just need to figure out how to get a bit more mid definition, and I will be one thrilled (because I am already happy) camper.

Im guessing it is equal to about a 310 in volume cab if i had to say something...
.

Does this cab remind you of any accugroove multi-driver cabs? Kinda sounds like it to me. I had one on those cabs and it was real smooth sounding, very polite in the mids and sounded great at home. It was very accurate/precise, clinical almost it just didn't cut it for me on the gig. I am a Bergantino fan boy with the AE212 and AE410 in house and plan to use the SL900 with both, but I could be persuaded to try a GB cab.

Jumped in today and ordered a Streamliner 600 today from Ye Old Music Shoppe in S.C.. The 600 watts I get from my my Shuttlemax 6.0 is more than enough for me and my funk, soul, R&B, motown outfit thru a genz Benz Neox 212t, or my Avatar TB 153. No distorted Guitar compete with in da funk!! I will be posting vids from gig situations just like I did for the Avatar TB 153 on You Tube.
