Genz Benz Streamliner Part 3!!!!

I don't remember ever gigging an accugroove cab except for my friends 112 .. And i did not like that one.. I thought it was too mid bright sounding without roundness to fill in the bottom.. I do not get that from the Uber Quad 1288..

The Quad is more balanced yet with a vocal mid character to it in my opinion...
real smooth and tight. A warm smooth mid voice.. Does a Jazz bass well.. and just kills a P bass in a good way.. In a way its like a studio playback monitor for bass.. real nice..
I don't think you can go wrong with your Berg AE212 and AE410 cabs though.. Both are very nice and great stuff.. Dont have enough experience with those to comment though. I have played a Berg Ht112ER and that is a nice cab.. I think a pair of those would go nice with the Streamliner 900.
But if you want another unique voice, the 1288 is sort of like a mini PA and it speaks.. it has its own sort of sound.... IMO

Does this cab remind you of any accugroove multi-driver cabs? Kinda sounds like it to me. I had one on those cabs and it was real smooth sounding, very polite in the mids and sounded great at home. It was very accurate/precise, clinical almost it just didn't cut it for me on the gig. I am a Bergantino fan boy with the AE212 and AE410 in house and plan to use the SL900 with both, but I could be persuaded to try a GB cab.

Crummy cellphone pic of the Uber Quad 1228 pair and Streamliner 900 at soundcheck the other day. Its not my beverage on top of the amp. Wires and cases are not put away yet..
Also,I never put drinks on an amp.

Gawdammit Kirk, stop posting pictures of all this cool looking stuff and getting me all worked up. :scowl:

Part of my AB thing with the Streamliner will be to see if it sounds a lot different with two HT112 cabs than the AE212. As with the B15 thing, not looking for a winner, just looking to see what sounds like what. I'll also throw my GBE400 into the mix just for kicks. I will be really keen to see if the Streamliner has some of that "traction" we talk about compared to the GBE series heads. I'm also dying to use it with my jazz trio gigs, from which I have retired my B15. I suspect in it's own way the Streamliner will be awesome for this.

I'm also starting to think that an Uber 1288 (or maybe a pair :rollno:) would be a nice addition, but one thing at a time, yes?

This makes me lol. What is it with everyone using the bass players stuff as a table? My number one pet peeve!

You know the old saying here.. "No Pics no Amp". I better abide by the rules..;)
So i figured i better put up or shut up.

I think that you may like the way the SL900 works with your HT112 cab,, they will be nice and open sounding with a top end sheen.. that's what im thinking.. the 1288s have alot of grunt and forward punch to them though...
And the SL900 has a buttery bottom...

I'm running the Berg Cabs. I like them, they are a little too heavy IMO.

I'd like to try a pair of the Genz NEOX-112T cabs with my 9.0 and Streamliner.

Already posted this but a threads no fun without pics.

I posted this in the wrong spot..so here it is hopefully in the right spot:

Got mine today FINALLY and the box looked intact..no compression or major scuffs noticed..and she works VERY well. Did let the amp acclimate to room temp a couple of hours to be safe..it has been from AZ to NC and to IL now so pretty extreme..plus in cold UPS warehouse since Thursday..anyhoo..

I only played it a short time and primarily through the headphones as the little ones are sleeping...sounds really wonderful..I could really hear the "3-d" thing going on..esp through headphones....almost sounded as if a fundamental deep chest beating note was there for each note you play, regardless of how hard or soft. I played a bit with the gain up and got some nasty mean OD stuff which is not really my thing. Kept the gain button engaged and turned the gain down just shy of noon and it got plenty "chewy" ..a fat sweet spot which I love...I can see tonal similarities to a walkabout for sure but this SL has more heft in each note...the mid controls are nice for adding more punch or high mid clarity if you choose.

It sounded great with a '76 P with chromes, a Geddy jazz with lo riders, and a MM Stingray 4 classic also lo riders..very impressed to start..

Also notable was the complete absence of fan noise(an issue on other amps I ahve owned/tried)..dead quiet...cant wait to crank it up tomorrow with some serious volume. Aesthetically the blue lights are subdued relative to the shuttle max..pretty when the lights are low IMO

I may pick up some tubes for saftety's sake and eventually try a Telefunken or Tung Sol. Adios and thanks to GB guys...great stuff.

Thanks

Mark

PS..are GB coming out with some cool streamliner tshirts? kind of a 50's style "rt 66" design would be cool..kinda retro like scotty cameron putters

Kirk, that was my thought also. Pushing the lower power 600 into 3DPM engagement on peaks would be easier than doing so with the 900. Would this be desirable? Very few of the early adopters of the Streamliners are going to own both models, so someone like Andyhorse (!) would need to answer this for us.

Andy?

On the 600/900 power difference- it would be interesting to see if the "3D Power Management" / little black box responds differently when pushed in the 600 vs the 900... maybe not a significant difference?
Thoughts?

My 600 came in yesterday, only after I left work! :eyebrow::rollno:
So today I have only been able to look at it. I like the color of the 600. Shipping box was in very good condition, no holes scrapes etc. Later today get to fire it up.

it won't act "differently"...other than with the 600, it will affect your tone and feel sooner than with the 900.

Heh-heh-heh.

No I dont have an Uber 410.. My friend does though.. He wants to try the SL900 this week.. he is using his MAZ12 but wants to get a 900 now too.
I hope to do some more AB...
I will be buying a 210 though just selling my MM bass first...

Hey Kirk,

I don't remember, do you have an Uber 410 and have you played the Streamliner through it? If so, Do you prefer the 1288 stack over the 410?

Thanks!
