Genz Benz Streamliner Part 3!!!!

The Streamliner900/nEarful combo is, IMO, a beautiful combination of bonecrushing and bootymoving.

Music to my ears. UPS says my Streamliner is out for delivery and Don just called to go over specs before starting on my nEarful 15/6.

Really want to try this amp out for myself. I've seen/heard enough demos from Ed Friedland and KJung of gear I've played or owned to gauge how it will sound for me even though I go for a much less bright tone and play with a heavier right hand attack. From their fantastic videos I have high hopes about how this rig will sound with my bass and hands.

Crummy cellphone pic of the Uber Quad 1228 pair and Streamliner 900 at soundcheck the other day. Its not my beverage on top of the amp. Wires and cases are not put away yet..
Also,I never put drinks on an amp.

Do you have a guesstimate on how that might compare to a Shuttle 9/nEarful? Right now, I have a Markbass SD1200 on trial from Musicians' Friend that I've been using with my 15/6. I wasn't happy with the 9.0 compared to the SD1200, but if the 900 can get the job done, I might pick one up.

Not sure if I can do this here or not (mods- cut this if need be).

If you're new to tubes or want to pick up a few, talk to this guy. I've bought several from him and he's very knowledgeable and will make recommendations based on what you're trying to accomplish tone-wise. Great to deal with and shipping's fast.

Doug is the man! I have been buying from him for years.

Someone was going to bring a Shuttle 9.0 to the GTG, but they forgot it at home, so I couldn't compare. I can't say first hand.
I *can* say that the Shuttle owner commented that the SL was richer and tubier. He didn't say that it had more oomph, but it did :D

You know.. People on TB say to never mix cabs.
It can create EQ / phase hassles i suppose..
But i figure if it works, it works..
I have used one Aggy GS112 and a Berg HT112EX a few times and each cab worked nicely when standing a few feet away from them...
Ya just never know.. Its a matter of taste..
Yeah there is a science to stuff. But at times i try to forget about the science and just play. If it sounds OK then its OK.. Just my opinion..

Would that cab combo work for you. I really could not say.. It might be great.. But its so subjective...
It may really sound great on your gig.. Ya just never know..
This is just my take on it.. Others can speak from another point of view regarding it...

But i sort of like the way matching cabs look. and my Uber quads do look and sound nice... sort of like a bass friendly PA

I'm still on the fence about picking up the UL-210 used from someone off CLIST, or just wait until the UBER QUAD is available. Do you think I could stack the two together, or would that sound weird with mismatched drivers?

I think I'll get the UL-210 for now, and add the UBER later. If they don't sound great together I can always sell the Epi, and get what I paid since I'm buying used. Funny how they say never to mix drivers but the 1288 is a total contradiction to that way of thinking don't ya think?

FYI... the difficulty that sometimes happens when you mix drivers is eliminated with crossovers. The Genz cab's drivers minimally interact, and each handles its own frequency band (low, middle and high). That is a pretty cool design, since there is less directional beaming of the higher frequencies when they are coming from a smaller cone (like the 8" mid drivers), and since they are handling most of the top end (along with the tweeter) they can use a woofer that is more of a 'subwoofer' type design, voiced nice and low.

Anothe FYI... the Epi210UL is a fine cab, but it is by far the most 'scooped' of the rather mid polite Epi line. Very big lows, VERY polite low mids, polite upper mids, and a big hole between the top of the driver's frequency range and the tweeter, giving the tweeter the characteristic Epi 'floating above the cab' sort of tone (that very sweet 'click and sizzle' that many of the modern gospel guys like.

I would not personally combine these two cabs myself, but you never know what will sound good or not.

IMO!

Well most PA systems use different drivers. .But they are crossed over, and each has a specific duty.
The 1288 Ubers are well designed with science and acoustical engineering in mind. The 8" speakers are vertical so they keep a nice horizontal dispersion. And they keep that dispersion pattern if you stack more than one..
Each of the drivers in the 1288 has a specific duty.. and they do a good job of it... Very Vocal in nature,, with a tight bottom and silky highs.. Just even throughout..

I does pretty well as a stand alone.. However it is 8 ohms so pick your amp accordingly.
I used a single 1288 Quad on a gig two weeks ago, it was very full and punchy articulate.. It is louder than a 210 not as much as a 410 though.. I think it has more clarity in the mids than a 410.. you can here the note ceter clearly..
It growls like a multi 10s cab but is smoother throughout..
Im guessing it is equal to about a 310 in volume cab if i had to say something...
If you have FOH you are in... just like most single cab situations...
When i play locally the guys i gig with play way too loud. Acoustic guitar to a def player with all monitors opening up by the time they hit me. and this cab did OK in that situation..

OK, I think I'll just get the Uber 1288 when it comes available. Thanks guys for your help on this. SVTB15: How would ONE of these cabs fair in a medium sized rock gig with limited FOH support?
