Genz Benz Streamliner; Part 4

Does anyone have the much lusted GUTS PICS yet? I've gotta see it... starting with the very first high-powered head I ever bought with my own money, a GK 1001RB, its been a ritual of mine to immediately pop the cover off a new amp and have a peek inside... before even plugging it in. Dunno why... just do.

As far as this weird ritual is concerned, the DB750 and Ampeg SVT3Pro have been high points, the Markbass being the least fun...

Yip - earlier in this thread, I think...

What does the sticker on top of the amp say? Mine does not have that. Do you have a pic

:hyper:

Just had 20 minutes on it.. obviously it's too early to draw any conclusions, but it sounds glorious so far. The highs are lovely and rich, and I love that 220hz mid control. :)

Two gigs this weekend, so it'll get a decent workout. I'll see how it compares to my RH450 and Promethean...

The RH450 will sound just a touch 'boxy' when directly compared to the SL900... it is a more compressed, low mid present, top end attenuated head, no matter what you do with the EQ. That can sound great on the gig, where 90% of the time a big low end is more of a problem than a blessing.

This is my worry about the SL900. I will be using a UB410, is the combination going to be too bottom-heavy live? I like lows, but I don't want boomy mud. I know I can just roll off the bass, but that can sometimes give an unbalanced sound.

Worry not - a slight roll-back of the bass and, if you so desire, a slight bump at 220/600 gives a punchy, smooth, even (to my ears) tone :)

I think you will be fine. I'm pretty impressed by the way you can reduce the bass control to reduce the 'bigness' without sucking all the life out of your low end (similar to the impact of rolling down the treble).

With that 200hz or so lo mid setting on the mids boosted a smidge, and the bass rolled off to 11 o'clock, it punches pretty hard. Lots going on inside those EQ controls versus some other amps... very powerful and 'musical' for lack of a better term. Turn the bass up, and it gets bigger without being overwhelming. Turn the bass down, and it gets 'smaller' without sounding thin. I couldn't ever see myself boosting the treble... all the Genz amp voicings are quite bright to me. However, turn the treble down, and again, it 'softens without dullness'.

Pretty cool circuit to my ear. I am VERY sensitive to the ratio of low bass to upper bass/lower mids... hate the 'boom and no punch' and really don't have an issue with that with this head at all.

However, as some have said, most will be turning the bass and treble controls down a touch versus boosting, which IMO is not a bad thing.

I've played two gigs and several rehearsals through my 410, and there is nothing but deep AND tight low-end. Zero boom bro!

It is just a bit of the marketing/spec sheet stuff, I assume put on there for when the head in on display at a music store.

it's really an announcement that the amp stays in protect mode for 25 seconds when you power up, as the tubes warm up. We didn't want people to get concerned.

It also warns people not to look directly into the RSBL's.
