Genz Benz Streamliner; Part 4

Hey Mike. I have a 'stream' of people (pardon the pun) coming by the house starting today and through the weekend to check out the head. However, come on over this afternoon (or late afternoon... Burk will be over). You should be able to get a good idea about the amp. I think Harrington is due by on Friday or Saturday.

Answer your phone chump!
I may come by with Burk.....But I don't know if I can handle the awesomeness that is the Burk....

FYI

2-8-11 placed order at YOMS
2-23-11 on UPS truck for delivery

To follow suit here.

Ordered 2-5-11 YOMS
No Delivery date yet

No squeaky wheel here, but it does look like a few that ordered after me received theirs from the first batch.

Not complaining, but just prefer the logical approach of first come, first serve ya know.

So If I want to run two cabs at 4 ohms I would need 8 ohm cabs if I understand correctly.
What if I want to run two Berg AE212's that are only 4 ohms each?
Also if I were only running one 212 at 8 ohms how much percieved volume will i lose as opposed to one 212 at 4 ohm?

You cannot run a pair of AE212 cabs with the S900 - that would be a 2 ohm load.

As for perceived volume, that depends. Mathematically you're losing a lot of watts running 8 ohm vs 4 ohm, but ears don't necessarily do math well. If you're playing a really loud gig with no FOH support, then you might want a couple 8ohm 4-10cabs. You can make people's ears bleed with the S900 and a pair of AE410s.

This is why I try to establish a relationship with a shop (eg Rocket) and order from them even if it ends up being a few dollars more. In the long run I end up saving money on other purchases all the while getting superior customer service.

There will never be any shows without FOH. But stage volumes do get quite loud. Depending on the room I run my SVT II between 3 and 4.5 just for stage volume.
I'm afraid that The SL with just a 8 ohm load wouldnt give me the power I need. I have no doubt that under 4 ohm I would be just fine.
I really wanted to go Berg but I need the ability to run a pair of cabs. I really wanted to go 12's too. Maybe Avatar then.

I kind of buried this clip link in the body of a response to another post earlier on this thread. Thought I'd post it up again as an example of the 'clean' tone of the Streamliner with a bright, aggressive 70's style J. It sounds GOOD! You can really hear that fat, warm, tubey low end, and it is also a good example of the clean pop you can get from this head if you want a bit of sizzle in your tone.

I have a buddy coming over with his TF750a this afternoon. That will be a fun comparison to do. Not sure if I'll have time to do a clip on it, but I'll post up. I love my life!

That's a great sound Ken. Have you tried this amp with the AE212, or is that one at a different location?

That's a 12 with two 8's? I have to admit, that looks nice. That's the first Genz cab I've liked the look of.

I agree! Genz-Benz has a very stylish, fine looking line up of cabinets. The exude 'quality and high-end craftsmanship.'
can't wait to hear one for myself. Just have to say my Bergantino AE410 at 4 ohms makes for some very very stiff competition! Talk about big shoes to fill. But it's always nice to have different flavors.

I'm a Berg lover through and through. I've had the same 112HT cabs for years. I've been curious about Aguilar's new small amp can 112's, but the Genz stuff might even be cooler for my needs since it has tubes in it. I use a clean sound most of the time, but I'd love something that I could push tubes in once in a while, and I'd love something that will push in that real tube way when I hit it with a pedal.

In one of my situations I have run the SL900 into an ampeg 810.. and the SL is way fuller and louder with more headroom than the SVT2 non pro head. Yes it is big 4 ohm cab..

Another poster said a pair of 410s.. The Uber 410 come is 4 or 8 ohms. so that could be an option.. or the Uber212. it is 4 ohms.

Then again there is the Uber 1288 3-way cabs that are 8 ohms..

Bergs...all i can think of in their 12s is the HT or AEs both great. I prefer the HT over the AE form my tonal goals.

I have a pair of the Quad 1288s.. and they do sound BIG, Loud and clear at the same time.. very focused and present.. A vocal type mid presence. sort of like a nice studio monitor in a way.. Killer.

This cab kills. I like a smaller form factor, but a pair of these or Quad/1-15 will crush things

Glad you are digging it!.. One does get LOUD.. but two just multiply s that and is good in a variety of loud situations for sure.

+1 on the Uber Quad. My STM-900 just SINGS with this cab. It's 8 ohm so only pushing HALF the 900 watts, but I don't think it will be a problem for me.
