I have apir of the Quad 1288s.. and they do sound BIG, Loud and clear at the same time.. very focused and present.. A vocal type mid presence. sort of like a nice studio monitor in a way.. Killer.

Since you have the 1288's, and you've tried the Berg 112's, how do they compare?

Two different animals.
The Quad seems to be wider in bottom with a more vocal mid-range that blends nicely to the tweet.. very focused and can growl somewhat in the way a 410 cab does.. yet it can do smooth HiFi too...
The HT112ER doesn't really growl that the way a multi 10s cab can. But is a very smooth sounding cab with surprisingly good lows for its cab size. And the tweeter crossover makes that cab shine..
I didnt care for the AE112 though. It seemed a bit barky to me in the upper mids..
I have never played the AE212 though.

Hey Ken, I'm thinking about getting a streamliner as a ying to my markbass f1 yang and was comtemplating whether to go 600 or 900? I'll be using the Thunderchild 112 and a berg 2x112 stack. The 600 is enough watts for both of these setups, what would be the advantage of the 900 in this setup?

Thats awsome to hear about the headroom on a large 4 ohm cab. I will be running a SL900 through my Mesa Powerhouse 1000 until i sell it to fund cab(s) yet unknown.
The scary thing is buying a 8 ohm uber or berg and knowing it will be probebly 6 mos before I can get another. So I would have to get a 8 ohm cab. The thought of my band situation and a 8 ohm 500 watt amp scares the crap out of me. I was debating on two Avatar Neo 410's in 8 ohm. Same price as one of either of the other two. So I could buy two at once. Then I could take one cab and the SLand run 8 ohm if I ever got this trio thing off the ground or trwo cabs and 4 ohms for my big band. Plus if I ever bought different head I could always run both cabs with it because Everything has 4 ohms but not everything always comes 2 ohm ready.
People say avatar arent in the same league with the Uber or Berg but keep in kind I will be dialing in a slightly grindy tone using a P bass or P/J for most applications playing loud nasty rock n roll.

In one of my situations I have run the SL900 into an ampeg 810.. and the SL is way fuller and louder with more headroom than the SVT2 non pro head. Yes it is big 4 ohm cab..

Another poster said a pair of 410s.. The Uber 410 come is 4 or 8 ohms. so that could be an option.. or the Uber212. it is 4 ohms.

Then again there is the Uber 1288 3-way cabs that are 8 ohms..

Bergs...all i can think of in their 12s is the HT or AEs both great. I prefer the HT over the AE form my tonal goals.

Well, Brown visited me this afternoon...:bassist: What a nice amp...totally different from my Shuttles or my LM...I was just asked...do I like it better?...it's...just different...but that's a very good thing. I sold my LM to spring for the Streamliner 900 and the comments about 'feel' seem to be right on the money so far in my very limited time with it. The head seems to be very touch sensitive, which I am enjoying. It pairs nicely with my defacto GS112s...deep, clean (or not)...and loud...in fact, it seems "sneaky loud"...as in seeming to 'fill' a room (in this case a living room, lol) while not sounding particularly loud in front of the cabs themselves. This is much different than the same cabs in the same place with my other heads...must be that 'girth' thing happening...;)...I simply love the gain staging...there's a lot of nice things happening by altering the gain, volume and master pots...very interactive, imho. As others have noted...I have actually cut the bass eq just a smidgen and it seems to tighten right up on the bottom. It wasn't until I pulled out my fiver that the low end on this thing just up and grabbed me...it's serious down low. No gigs lined up in the near future, so I will play around and get acquainted to it at a leisurely pace. I am a happy camper!

Obligatory show it or it doesn't exist photo...:D

OK, just got home from hanging out at Ken's and playing the SL900....

Played a variety of basses through a few cabs.
Cabs:
Ken's Berg 410 and the ThunderChild 112. And my Bag End S15D-X.
Had my 9.0 there as well.

Basses were AC LM & LG, Nordy P5, PRS 4, Sadowsky JJ5 and Valenti J/MM 5.

EVERYTHING sounded good through this amp.

I want one.

The standout regardless of amp/cab combo was the Sadowsky and the SL900.

I want one.
Will have one in some way soon. Look for a 9.0 with bag for sale!

Don't get me wrong. My 9.0 sounded great. But the SL900 has that uber clean high end tube sound nailed.
I ALWAYS have compression of some sort going on. The give of the front end of this amp I can say I may not run any.

The 9.0 has that super quick nice front end to the notes, where the SL900 seems to be just a touch lazy.

For me, I could make it my all in one amp. But I could see for some situations where the 9.0 would be a better choice.

Gonna get one soon. Liked it.
Andy, Roger.......knocked this one out of the park fellas.

I have a Shuttle 9.0 en route and that is my planned setup. S900 will be the main amp, Shuttle backup unless I have a gig where I want a more "hi fi" tone. I'm going to stick with a pair of AE210s and I'm done. No more amp/cab churn for awhile. The S900 has enough going on that I have to spend time getting to know what it can do and how it will react with different instruments. I'm with you on the comp thing - I've been using an FEA dual band for every gig (though not set very squashed) but I'm thinking of going without it, or only using it when the env filter is on (to take spikes).

Nice to have reality live up to the hype, though I'm still upset that the S900 didn't make me better looking or 10 years younger...

Nice hang Mike! Yes, the Streamliner 900 is the shizzle wizzle

Ok, UPS just dropped off my new SL900. I just finished trying it out. All I can say is wow!!! It lives up to all the hipe!!!For 6.5 lbs. or for any poundage, it is simply incredible. Got mine from YOMS $749 +18 shipping. Best $$$$$ I've ever spent. This is coming from a guy who just sold his Aguilar DB750.

How does it compare to your old Aguilar?

I'm glad so many SL's are showing up and people are hearing this little BOMB for themselves. I went back and forth tonight on my P/J and J bass and just can't get over how great it sounds with both basses. I'm soooo in love.

Mikebass ...THANKS for your great post! Bet you guys had some fun! What an arsenal of great gear to demo and compare. Hugely valuable feedback. Thanks again!

PS: Congrats Sportster! I'll bet those Aggie 112's love the thump!

Sounds killer man. Really fat, smooth, and deep. It's a little scooped sounding, but not to a fault. I love it so far. Doesn't compare to my IP310 rig, but it seems like a killer substitute! Got a few gigs coming up (on 2nd Floors of buildings) that I will be testing this rig out on. :ninja:

I'm curious of the "scoop" is coming from the cab or the amp....I can't handle scooped mids.

I'm sure that IP310 is unreal. Those IP's are still tops for me.
