Regarding the last "fat J" suggestion from hasbeen, including diming the bass control (since the thread got closed and I don't feel like a lotta' cut/pasting right now), man, I was shocked to see folks say it wasn't overly boomy. I felt the SL900 was overly boomy a lot of the time at NOON!

The hi passing is a thing of beauty on this head.... turning up that bass control adds meat and very little 'boom'. Nicely voiced. Nice upper bass peak in that control to my ear. Like you, I would never need to boost it either, but all three EQ controls are quite musical through most of their range.
Hey Hasbeen, I tried your phat J setting but actually I didn't need that much boost with my bridge position Dingwall MII or my Nordstrand Big Single. I think my KLLF loaded 156 has so much low end to begin with that 3:00 low boosts aren't necessary. Pretty cool.
I usually never mess with boosting eq in the 600-800hz region but man the SL900 sounds great when I boost the 600hz mid slightly.

The "fat J" setting was a bit much for me when I had both PUPs wide open, but I'm going to play with it some more with all or mostly bridge pickup. That might be kinda cool for me...

regarding my "fat J" setting. Yes......in my earlier post, I mentioned to try it with a solo, bridge pup. Or...both pups on for a slap tone.
My real intent though is to get people to see how interactive the tone network it. For those that say they get too much bass at noon....or...not enough mids, they might be surprized at how the whole "nature" of the bass and mids change as they are cranked.

Wow - I just tried that. I would have never thought to dime both of those, goes against all TB eq rules!
I could use that, weird though, I was just thinking of converting my jazz from passive to active and this setting may have changed my mind. Not sure I can use it with flats as that is maybe too much, but with some fresh rounds could be fun

this is kind of why I'm suggesting it. It DOES go against a lot of TB "rules". This is a type of tone network though, that many not may not have had previous experience with.
Players will also hear that if you weren't into overdrive flat you may be with the Phat J setting. Just back the pre vol down accordingly.

I think it depends on a cab and cab placement.. And i know you have some sweet gear... Im jealous ... But to clarify , boomy is different than bottomy just so we are all on the same page.
To me boomy is that 160hz thing where notes ring uncontrolled. Its that ring that you get on a hollow stage where bass is vibrating the singers mic stand and rings in the house. Thats my idea of boomy.
I dont get that with my rig.. I do get bottomy though.. Run a bass through a 31 band EQ and raise the 160 and you will see what i mean..

I dropped the "fat j" back a bit. Bass and 220 at around 2:00, with a boost it the treble as well. This may be a bit more usable setting overall, depending on music covered. It is so much fun to tweak around with this amp. 
I also tried this setting with my Dingwall ABII at practice. I don't think it works with that bass, at least not active using both PUPS in series.
Went back to my favorite setting of tube drive noon to 1, tube vol noon, bass at noon, mids at 3PM at 600Hz, and treble at noon. Yummy.
BTW, speaking of Cake from the last thread, we do "Going the Distance" and this amp, with the bass drive at 3PM plus the rest of the settings above, gives me that overdriven bass tone perfectly!
I might have to try it with just the bridge soloed. I don't normally play this bass that way, but it is fun to experiment.

No big surprise here... I did a fair amount of sound for John and the gang during the Fashon Nugget era. Goes back to experience in the trenches. Try it on "I Will Survive" with a little less gain and maybe a bit more high mid.
My settings were almost the same as what Eublet suggested. He dialed up the mid a bit more. I never thought I would prefer the 2.5 mods more, surprise, surprise. I didn't really care for the fat J setting with both pickups even.
Streamline update.
Just got my Schroeder 2x15 cab. (800 watts, 4 ohms)
Cab is a little bigger than what I wanted. (I'll stop there)
This is about tone.
My god, this amp loves this cab.
Fat, defined, with big head-room, old school bliss.
Everything that's been said, is true about this amp.
This is my tone is spades.
Sound wise, this may be it ?????
It appears I have fallen pray to peer pressure. Was thinking of getting a shuttle 6 or 9. When I came upon this insanely long streamliner thread, was overcome by gas, and order a STM-600. It will be quite a departure for me as I have been playing SWR amps for the last 12 years (owned nearly their entire line) and have never owed a tubey amp. My Super Redhead died on me and I have decided to build myself a BFM Jack 210. No idea if this is going to be a good combo but I'm just going for it.
Is the s600 voiced any different than the s900? I know the shuttle 6 and 9 are different.
BTW anyone know when there will a rack mount kit?
