Genz Benz Streamliner Part 9

OK all you Genz Streamliner guys. I am getting curious about the Streamliner 900. I am curious, will these cop a tone close to an SVT or is the strength of these a different tone altogether? Is it more hi-fi? Or is it a chameleon and can do many different tones? I am trying to get some ideas as to what these sound like. YouTube is only so good for trying to figure this out.

It won't sound like an SVT, but it gets closer than any other micro out there.

Lots of tones on tap once you wrap your head around the way the gain staging affects the overall tone.

Thanks, that's the thing really. I thought that of the micro's it would be closest to it. I've been getting interested in these smaller heads with a tube frontend. I play thru a Hartke HyDrive 410 and I've read that it pairs up pretty well with it. Just noone around me has a Streamliner and I only know of 1 guy locally that has a Shuttle 6.

so I was just about to click the "buy now" on a SLM600 on ebay......I'm in Canada....so I asked about shipping and this is the answer I got:

Authorized dealers are no long allowed to ship across the border...the warranty is not valid in Cda".......which really bums me out cause now I have to buy it in Cda at at least $200 more and our dollar is at par.....go figure.....

Yeah, the Canadian distributor has to get their pinch off the top...

Still, Peter at Mojo Music in Oakville is a stocking dealer- nice guys, and excellent service.

But why should I pay $829 Cdn if I can buy it off Ebay for $585 Cdn and it's new...OK so I have to pay $50 for shipping and there is no warranty but since our Cdn $ is at par then why do Cdns have to pay $280 more for the same product? Just so we can have a warranty? Not worth it.....

edit: I emailed Mojo Music but have yet to receive a reply.....

and no STM 600 in the TB classifieds for a few months now

Be patient, one will turn up- you might even find a 900 cheaper used than buying a 600 new.

I grew up in Montreal, prices were so much worse in the past, it was very frustrating comparing them to US ones for virtually anything, and we had very little choice in general.

Good luck in your search!

USPS actually has reasonable rates for cross border shipping, They have some deal where they will hand it over to Canada Post and don't ding you on the brokerage fees that Fedex and UPS do.

I just had a STM600 shipped to me. Tax+Duty+etc ran about $100 paid at pickup. Not too bad, wouldn't be any cheaper driving down when you factor in gas.

I get the dealers in Canada wanting to get their piece of the pie,but I wonder what that has to do with the warrantee-thats from Genz.Did you check with Genz about this??

yep. i AM and old hippie. ;)
and yes, i was doing the high harmony on that one-good call. ;)

here's another old rocker with a streamliner. a friend used his cell phone cam on this one and unfortunately, its internal mic was getting overloaded (distorted). on this clip i was driving the ST900's front end into distortion with my custom ric-ish bass.

Nice tone with the streamliner . Is the ric-ish bass passive/ active ? From the tone i heard wow its sounds very svt ish . Kudos on the clips :bassist:
