I wonder how many of these "too boomy" posters are (with no disrespect or disdain at all) using passive basses.

The ability to send an inherently more mid aggressive tone, using an active preamp, straight from the bass would be an easy fix for many.

I use a Fender USA P Deluxe and until the other night had only played it in passive mode through the Streamliner, switching over to active opens up a shed load of tonal options, it is like an artists palette of choice, only without the artsist ;)
You are right, boosting the active mid control sounds great .

It's funny because I find my Passive vintage fender works better through my Streamliner than my Active Sadowsky...of course Sadowskys don't have the Mid control on board, so I can't control that on the bass. Just seems a little harder to tame the low end with the Sad.

I almost always boost a bit of mids on my bass's active eq, it increases the articulation for me. This is especially true with the Streamliner.

I didn't get along with the eq on my Sadowsky for the reasons you mention. Bass is boost only, and there's no mid control. To get a decent sound I always had to favor the bridge pickup at least a bit.

Me as well. I have a jazz with Bigsplits and a Sad preamp, and would have some issues with taming the low in at gigs. When I use my Lakland 5502 I cut the bass on the streamliner way back then use my preamp to dial in mids and adjust bass to taste. Much more control that way, for me. Others MMV Still love the snot out of this amp though :D

Sorry to hijack your post here. How do you like the bigsplits? Im thinking about them with an Aguilar OBP3 on one of my basses. I have Fatstacks and a BEQ12 on another. The fatstacks via my streamliner are aggressive and brutally powerful. Im hoping bigsplits will be warmer and smoother. I like the different tones I get from each bass out of my streamliner. They all work well.

Big splits are like if a big single and a p made a baby, much smoother top end and high mid character. Big Singles and Fat Stacks are both fairly aggressive with the FS being a bit more polite in the top end.

Yep, sorry for late response. Hapa is right on to my ear. I used the Bigsplits for the bit more smooth response compared to the singles, I really have not had first hand experience with the Fatstacks.

played a relatively big outdoor gig with a loud drummer, two guitars (tele and strat), two voices.
At a certain point the gig transformed in a jam session and another bassist came on the stage and played his own rig (vintage gibson into cheap ashdown amp) along with me, at the same time!
I used my Warwick jazzman, STM 900 and 2 x Berg AE210 stacked horizontally. Gain 1 o' clock, pre volume 10, bass 10, mid 3, mid freq 2,5 k, treble noon, master 9:30.
Plenty of volume, heft and an absurd dynamic response. In the past I played this same gig with other amps (markbass stack, Thunderfunk) and I have to tell that this is the first time that I heard all my playing so clear, and...punchy!. The good novel is that I cut trough wonderfully, and everyone commented how good the bass was grooving and how clear it was in the mix. I'm almost shocked...with all that rumor on the STM, with problems cutting and being heard, and so on...In that department it has been clear and intelligible, and powerful, big, warm and creamy at the same time...I'm surprised, at least. The absurd situation of two basses on stage (I'm a soundman...no way I consider two basses a viable situation...) DID NOT change the mood of the audience. Every musician commented that they were able to clearly distinguish the two basses and follow their work. From a musical point of view that situation is non sense, but as an experiment on the STM capability to cut it has been a stunning success ...believe it or not

Got the Streamliner today and WOW! Just WOW...My Duck Dunn is SO warm and my 44-02's are mind blowing, the Bergantinos really pair well with this head. This head really lets you have that all present, warm tube 3D sound and hear all of the small nuances of your playing. WOW!
